BBL X1

This remains unclear atm,CA are not saying anything..One of the BBL clubs has up to 12 COVID infections. Both players and staff. It may be Sydney Thunder, who the Schorchers played a few days ago.,…
Latest news is 4 Sydney Thunder players have contracted the virus .And up to 15 Melbourne Stars players including staff.

Bloody hell, time for that old tongue in cheek suggestion from many years ago. Cut a big channel on the WA border, south all way to the north. Passport holders only allowed in.

A bit of a joke that game today. Half the Stars side were club players and predictably were no match for the Scorchers. With 10 players out with COVID I think the game should have been postponed. The BBL is losing its credibility and standard every time a game like this is played, there have been so many one sided contests this season.

Mike has the BBL or CA ever had much credibility?
The BBL for instance has never got top International players to compete in the tournament?
It usually only has those players well passed their prime from overseas or who are second rate.
Despite criticism for years about no DRS or hotspot, snicko etc it still has not acted on adding those important decision making tools.
The ridiculously added 2 teams for Sydney & Melbourne when you barely have enough quality talent to sustain 6 teams (1 for each state).
I could go on and on…

And then we get to Cricket Australia.
Those morons forge ahead with this BBL in the covid infested hot spot of the East Coast where games are being cancelled, postponed or players being ripped out due to positive tests and then new guys pulled from suburban club cricket literally hours before start time that is if they dont already have covid.
The same goes for the Test squads for both AUS & ENG.
Meanwhile in Perth no covid to speak of and yet no games either BBL or Test Matches, it was all too hard they said, the players didnt want to quarantine etc which they did in QLD and are virtually living in a bubble again now anyway!

And of course we cant forget CA’s multitude of cover ups including the recent Tim Paine dick pic incident and now we disturbingly read on the ABC yesterday about a young VIC batsman in the Australian Under 19s team that toured India & Sri Lanka back in 1985 and what he was subjected too on that tour and how it scarred him for life and has never been the same person again let alone his cricket ability!
That under the carpet pile at CA HQ is now starting to appear like Mt Everest!

That U/19 Tour in 85 of India & SL, sounds appalling, huge Ostrich response by all concerned…the poor kid left Aust shores a potential Aust gun test batsman, returned months later a physical and mental wreck…as a parent i would of never ever forgiven myself…the alleged culprit sounds typical of those times, where a lot of oddball characters with unsavoury intentions, who came highly “recommended”, got involved in youth sport unsupervised and left run riot…only to be found out too late.

yes BH, the whole summer of cricket has been a complete shitshow from start to finish and goodness knows what will happen in Sydney this week if this test actually gets off the ground. With Travis Head already testing positive and most of the England support staff isolating, it would be amazing if no other players are affected between now and Wednesday. Ironical isn’t it that the only place where there is no live cricket happening is in relatively COVID free Perth . If CA had bit the bullet in November they could have had the entire BBL tournament in Perth and rotated the games between the Stadium and the WACA. All for the sake of 14 days quarantine at the start.
As for that poor young Victorian batsman in Sri Lanka, that appears to be yet another appalling cover up by ACB/CA which puts the organisation in the same league as the Catholic Church!

I now appears that CA plan to finish the BBL season. Is to relocate all sides to play in Victoria. And take all games out of Sydney.Apart from the 15 th of January. When Sydney Stars+Thunder will fly home for a local derby. Then fly back to Melbourne.
This is expected to start later this week.As other posters have said maby Perth was the better option for this.
Optus Oval,Waca,Lilac Hill Park .Maby even base some sides in the south west .

Would of thought WA has dodged a bullet here not being lumped with this cricketing format farce…the standard is appalling…bowlers celebrating batters getting out to their rank full tosses, like they have bowled a jaffa…batters getting out to bowlers bowling rank full tosses…it’s cringing to watch…the standard this season is worse then I have ever seen…the sooner this BBL season is done the better…

True that Freeze, it just makes me shake my head in disbelief that organisation Cricket East Coast were adamant the BBL & Tests had to be played but with no restrictions, bubbles, quarantine etc but that is exactly what is happening now in the covid infested East.
But having said all that Cricket East Coast are not exactly the “world champs” when it comes to making correct decisions now are they!!!

Seems strange to me that some of you blokes that comment on the BBL get yourselves in a tizzie because ‘good heavens, that’s not cricket’, yet you still post about it. If you keep up on it, you have to take it for what it is….franchise cricket and either accept it as that or simply pretend it’s not there and live in your own world. It’s no different than franchise basketball, AFL and soon to be WAFL. it’s modern day sports. One criticism of it though, the season is far too long, thus loses a bit of impact. Other than that, I love all 3 forms of cricket.

58, I was a fan of the BBL initially, even came over with my boys for games when catching up with family/friends in Perth and Melbourne…but as you say it’s way too long…with the supporting cast getting weaker and weaker each year…like you I am a fan of any form of cricket…I just wish it was scheduled better…what i would love seeing is the continued development of a Josh Philippe red ball skills, pre BBL he was having a breakthrough shield comp and Josh Inglis the same the season before…

Obviously money and gloss talks though and it’s all about entertaining/enticing the next generation of cricketers/fans…it is what it is…but how about tweaking it a bit to increase its impact even more…just seems to drag on and on…

Looks like the Heat are trying to pull out of tomorrows match V Renegades.Down at Geelongs Afl stadium..All of the current Heat squad have tested positive to C19..
The stars where able to replaced 10 player’s last two matches.. Probably easier based in Melbourne then up in Qld..

Great to see Ashton Turner rise to the occasion last night in the absence of Munro and when the Scorchers were in strife at 2 for 17. The bowlers also did the job in the absence of Berendorff and Mills. Hardie showed his all round capabilities last night. They are going to be a formidable combination if and when they get their Australian reps back. Just sad we can’t see them at Optus but Turner made the point that they are now learning to win on low and slow eastern states wickets which may be beneficial when it comes to finals time.

Another great win by the Scorchers. Hopefully they haven’t peaked too early. They seem to be able to slot guys in who will do the job them even though their squad is depleted. Today it was Hobson who got them off to a great start and Evans and Turner finished the innings off. Then a great spell by Kelly to dismantle the Stars batting line up

Seems amazing they can fill gaps with players that haven’t been able to break into the team and still pick up a win. And I agree…hope they haven’t peaked too early.

Will be interesting to see if being away for almost the entire comp will eventually wear them down. The Vicco teams now have a significant advantage with all games now to played in their home state.

I’d hate to be a selector when they get everyone back at finals time. By my calculation there’s 14 vying for 11 spots and that doesn’t include Bancroft who I think is a waste of space. Someone is going to miss out if the likes of, and in possible batting order, Patterson, Inglis, Munro, Marsh, Evans, Turner, Hardie, Agar, Richardson, Tye, Kelly, Hatzoglou, Berendorf and Morris are all available.

The top 6 pick themselves with maybe Hardie and Hatzoglou getting squeezed out but which quicks do you play as they all have solid claims? Richardson, Berendorf and Tye are all in but Kelly has taken wickets and Morris at 150kph + has also been good. Buggered if I know.

It’s been an amazing BBL X1 by the Scorchers. Its been difficult for multiple reasons.Players gone out and suitable replacements have come in..
As Bc said some selection decisions have to be made.. Assuming a COVID outbreak doesn’t go through the squad, like other BBL teams.
With the lack of International players and squads ravaged by COVID.Has seen grade cricketers elevated to BBL level. With a huge drop in the standard of the BBL this year..
The good operators who are still playing at the BBL level of 5 years ago.Scorchers and the Sydney 6ers are miles ahead of the competition atm.

I see Richardson has been released by CA to play BBL. The Scorchers should be just about at full strength for the finals this weekend but then again, so will all the other top 5 teams. It should be an interesting finals series.

Does anyone know if Cam Green is on a BBL list? I checked the Scorchers roster and he didn’t seem to be there. I know he played a few games for Perth before he broke into the test team. He would be a handy player with his all round skills but maybe Cricket Australia want him to focus on the longer form of the game for the moment, also with his previous injuries in mind they may be managing him.
