BBL 23-24

Pretty ordinary start to this competition with one complete washout already plus an abandonment due to an unplayable pitch. Water got under the covers during the storm in Geelong apparently. You would think that they would have taken extra precautions given that they knew the forecast. I reckon that the Scorchers should have got the points on a forfeit given that the Renegades as the home team failed to provide a suitable pitch for play. Makes the whole competition look very amateurish when CA are making heaps of money.
Play the whole tournament in Perth I say, theres never any rain here in December/January

Why on earth are they sending a WA team down to Geelong for a game, especially when they are the current champs. There are 2 Vicco teams in the comp, send them down to play in that backwater. As for the sodden pitch, what a disgrace to let that happen, must be a shortage of covers down Geelong way, they should be banned from holding any future BBL fixtures.
They knew the state of the pitch well before the game was due to start, it should have been rescheduled and relocated to one of the many suitable grounds in and around Melbourne such as the Junction oval, pharking amateur hour.

More like no rain in Perth from November - April these days Mike!

SS and those pharkwits in VIC are the self proclaimed “Sporting Capital Of The World” apparently!!!

Disappointing result for GMHBA Stadium. The only game played down their in this BBL,season.
Should base the Renegades down in Geelong. The Cats would like to have a summertime Tennent.

Dont give a rats about alphabet stadium, what seems crazy is to send the team who travels the farthest by a long way during the season down to Sleepy Hollow. It should have been the other Vicco team or SA or a Sydney team.

Complete demolition of the “Stars” by the Scorchers, handy toss to win but our bowlers used the conditions to perfection, never allowing any decent partnerships to develop. Lost three in the chase but it was cool calm and collected all the way.

Another demonstration of how the Scorchers have been the most successful franchise in BBL by promoting local players with ability rather than rely on overseas recruits. Hamish Mckenzie comes straight from grade cricket in Perth to BBL and collects a man of the match performance in his debut.

Jordan gave the Canes a credible score.
Hardie and Crawley mauled the Hurricanes bowlers
Great crowd 28,900.
Maby the next Perth test should be day/night.

Crawley is a great signing for the Scorchers. Despite all the talk of Stokes, Brook and Root all playing outrageous “Bazball” during the Ashes series, Crawley was the guy with the highest strike rate. I don’t think he will be around for the latter part of the season as England have a test series in India in late January. Eskinazi will no doubt come back in when that happens. Mitch Marsh may also be released to play a few games after the Sydney test so that is pretty scary for opposition teams
Hardie should be playing regular white ball cricket for Australia before too much longer. Its amazing the production line of line of all rounders that are coming from WA.
The bowling was uncharacteristically loose apart from Berendorff who was outstanding again.

Another brilliant defensive effort by the Scorchers bowlers and fielders after a dodgy start to the batting and a collapse at the end.
The bowlers were spot on for most of the innings, strangling their batsmen, happy to give up singles and 2’s pushing the rate up over 12 in the last 5 overs which proved too much got the Renegades. All this without their brilliant skipper who looks like he’s done for the tournament, but they didn’t miss a beat.

Inglis would have to be biting at Careys heels for the test spot, particularly if Careys poor batting form continues. Given that Turner is out for the rest of the BBL season, maybe the Scorchers could move to sign Cam Green as he is unlikely to be needed by Australia until at least the West Indies series which is after the BBL has finished.

Huge match last night at Optus
Over 41,000 fans
Evans with an amazing knock. After Adelaide holding the Scorchers for over 10 overs..Hope Evans gets a much deserved IPL contract, next year.
Morris with a very rair 5 for in a BBL match.
Its turning out to be a great season for the BBL.Tv ratings for 7 ,fox and kayo are up over 30%.On last year.

Think they have hit the right length of competition this year with 10 games, it dragged on into February last year and once the kids are back at school interest wavers.
As for the competition itself the usual suspects are at the top, Heat, Scorchers and Sixers. Adelaide are on a bit of a run so they may cause a bit of disruption if they make the finals.
Crawley plays his last game tomorrow before heading off to play for England, I assume Eskinazi will come in as a swap

Evans leaves not long after Crawley too Mike which means Perth will have to bring in maybe Eskinazi or Hobson as their replacements.
What a pity the WA boys in the Test squad M.Marsh & Green were not made available to play unlike the East Coast mob of Smith, Labuschagne, Khawaja, Carey, Renshaw etc…and of course David “Brian Peake” Warner flying in on his private helicopter sheesh!!!

Certainly Brisbane’s title to lose after last nights comfortable win. They now have a home qualifying final and the Scorchers are in danger of losing the double chance if they succumb to the Heat again on Saturday.

One thing which I have noticed over the past few games is that the bowling is leaking a lot more runs than usual with Tye, Richardson and even Berendorff going at around 10 per over whereas early in the season teams would struggle to score more than a run a ball off them.

They need the bowling to be on song because the batting line up looks very flimsy with the pending loss of Crawley and Evans. Bancroft would have been very handy at this stage of the season.

mikeh, don’t Brisbane lose a few before the finals? Neser had a cracking game, pretty sure he won’t be repeating that again anytime soon.

It was mentioned during the Fox Commentary during the game that Brisbane will lose Khawaja, Labuschagne (CA allowed to play but not M.Marsh or Green for Perth???), Billings & Munro their Top 4 in the batting order last night after that game!
Pierson is a decent replacement for Billings but not sure Browne, Bryant & McSweeney are in the same class as those 4 they will miss!

Heat vs Scorchers at the furnace today at 1pm when the temperature is going to be around 41, just to fit in with Eastern States television schedules. Absolutely ridiculous when all other games have started at 6.15, even 4pm would have been OK as it probably would have been slightly cooler at least. No real consideration for the Players and Spectators

Great effort today by the Scorchers. In very challenging conditions. Well done to the crowd for rocking up.
So sad to see Richardson injured again. Two shoulder recons and now a side complaint. Heard Doug Bollanger on SEN .Say Richos current injury is a shocker for a quick bowler.
Wrapped to see Shaun Marsh play well at the Renegades
He will make a decision in a few days.If he continues as a 41 year old ,next BBL
Hope he plays on.Still playing good cricket.
