It was another interesting round of football, but as teams tuned up for finals some games meant very little. Kingsway defeated Quinns, Whitford grabbed second spot with a win over Mt Lawley, Collegians defeated by Melville but not by enough to grab second spot and North Freo finished the season off strong will a well fought win. Wanneroo took on Wembley and it was an interesting contest.

The day started with a twist, MrM was able to sleep in as the Colts were playing a night game and it meant more time to watch the Olympics and see the Women’s 800 metre swimming World Record smashed.
MrM arrived and wondered what Wanneroo were doing as he saw them stroll out from the State Netball Centre (apparently that’s where the Away changerooms were located) some 200 metres from the playing surface…luckily having previously once played at two local clubs West of the Mitchell Freeway who have change rooms that reside in the next postcode, it was no issue for Wanneroo having to walk this distance to play some football.

Well for the Reserves they didn’t play any football. From the outset they were completely outclassed and out matched. Wembley virtually did as they pleased as Wanneroo ended the season with an 80 point defeat.

MrM would like to thank Wembley’s canteen as it was pumping and thriving in their new facility. The hot chips were nice and crispy, and MrM and his hamburger were a pleasant treat. 8/10…
The bar, no words could do it justice. 10/10. I do not need to add any more.

The League game was a surprisingly good contest right from the first quarter. Wembley got the early jump on Wanneroo, but Wanneroo fought back late in the quarter and reduced the lead. In the second quarter Wanneroo managed to grab the lead for a period as they strung together some good football.

The second half was again close as Wanneroo’s coach managed to keep them in the contest right up until the final siren as he kicked 6.4 before bowing out as a player and coach for one final time. Unfortunately Wanneroo couldn’t manage to get the win and they lost by a few goal. Wembley are looking very ominous and should be a favourites come finals time. That’s if they don’t go out in before the Prelim final again…

The colts rounded out our day as Wanneroo took out the game and secured themselves a week off and top of the ladder.

All in all a great day and great season…looking forward to finals.

Sorry for poor write up…MrM used all his energy watching Usain!

Thanks for the write-ups this year MrM and I hope you’ve recovered from Silly Sunday.
Here’s hoping that you can continue the write-ups into the Finals.
A little birdy has told me that a team in the B Reserves has been doing some naughty things during the year and might be losing competition points. Have you heard any rumours from your potato-growing contacts?

No silly Sunday as of yet…but recovered from Saturday night well.

I have not…but if you care to elaborate, I might be able to check.
I know Kingsway were stripped of points v Mt Lawley in Round 7. But haven’t heard anything else as of yet. Given how the season finished they’d be mightily upset about that too…cost them second spot on the ladder.

Refer attached updated B Reserves ladder MrM.
It appears Wembley didn’t score against Whitford in Round 16, and also didn’t score against Quinns in Round 15 either.

Wembley stripped off 2 games vs Whitfords and Quinns.
Hard to get a kick for Wembley when your in Sydney at the time…

Very interesting. Now means Kingsway are out of finals and Quinns in.

Did they play a player under a false name?
Because as we have learnt in the past…that never works!

A smarter option would have been playing with 21…and placing him on the team sheet. Like Peel Thunder did in Reserves.

Not sure Mr M they did name him and he was in a different state for 2 weeks…

You’d be filthy if you were Kingsway, Swan Ath & North Freo.

One does wonder how they found out then…

Named 22 both weeks and wasn’t in the state..
Can only assume someone played under a dodgy Mr M…

Surely if they have done this 2 weeks in a row it is a blatant disregard of the rules (cheating for a better word) especially for a side that lost 1 game all year - certainly grounds to have them thrown out of the finals i believe

It certainly fits the definition of ‘systemic cheating’ in my opinion. Is this practice isolated to just one team or the entire Club?

Whats the phrase… “brought the Game into disrepute”

Ammos need to have a real hard look at this one. far reaching destruction to a lot of clubs and their planning.

My understanding of it:

  • Kingsway won by 1pt by the last kick of the day over Quinns for a supposed spot in finals. - now Kingsway have been told no finals, very harsh on the players

  • Whitford now have all 3 sides at home for a final, due to Wembley cheating - Whitford would have missed out on a potential financial windfall.

  • Teams that thought they had second chance etc have now had that taken away, not to mention the right to host home finals.

Wembley don’t suffer in all of this, the only potential sanction is if the league are bundled out, player in question cant play ressies as his game tally for reserves is 3.

Kick them out of finals and make a stand for the deliberate manipulation of the comp.

Well said UTB

The “new” ammos hireachy has a real chance to make a statement that this type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated especially as it was not a “once off”

Kelmscott had the book thrown at them for potentially what could have happened this season regarding behaviour and what Wembley have done in my opinion is a lot more serious. If i was involved with any of the clubs involved, i would be protesting what has happened and take the ammos board to task

The only way that Wembley can be punished is that all grades are removed from the finals for 2016 - make a stand because it does beg the question “what else have they done this year” in other grades as well

Agree that the WAAFL need to take a stand on this with Wembley.

Makes you question if they are doing this at Reserves level, have they also been doing this through their 3s & 4s too?

Heard a rumour that an A Grade side has also been caught playing 6+ players under false names in their colts including a 22 year old. Now that’s systemic cheating to the next level.

Are there any consequences for coaches and club administrators who knowingly play unregistered and/or ineligible players in team?

You’d be fairly angry wouldn’t you?!
Still one wonders how it was come to be known said player was out of the state, didn’t think people followed B Reserves football that closely!

Too be fair, they broke the rules and the punishment handed was the correct one. Whether you agree or disagree, that is what has happened…fair to say Wembley has opened themselves up for some deserved criticism here.
Bring back the player ID cards.

Pretty sure Wembley enjoy the “purple circle”. Have got away with a lot of things over the years.

Not sure about penalising the league side, but definitely think the B ressies should be kicked out pending a response from Wembley put forward to the Ammos.

systematic manipulation of the competition - begs the question.. what else have they been upto. Where there is smoke there is a raging fire.

This may open a can of worms!!

Isn’t paying players ‘bringing the game into disrepute’ too!! It’s just as much against the rules.

Isn’t it also ‘cheating’?

A fair number of clubs may need to be careful about what they wish for!!!

Birdman - big difference between suspicion and actually being caught . You can suspect that clubs may be paying players but unless you have proof, not a lot can be done. When you get caught not once but twice listing a player on a team sheet when he isnt even in the state, that to me say’s that more than 1 person at Wembley had an inkling of what they were doing and up until this morning, were probably feel pretty chipper at getting away with it. Sad part is that it is 3 other clubs that are paying the price (see comments above) and Wembley who at this stage still finish on top and still get the week off - where is the penalty in that?

It would appear that Wembley have been punished as per the by-laws.

I am unimpressed as the next person however I do not not support knee-jerk reactions and punishments that extend beyond that prescribed within the by-laws.

Throwing all of their sides out of the finals is an over-reaction to a minor offence.
