Betty still had the power to stop that drunken old Pommie sloth from taking the stance he did.She sat on her fat barge and did nothing. And nothing has changed.she can still do the same now.
It is not why the people of Australia didn’t vote him back in that is the problem it is that fact that he had to go to another election at all.The Poms ruled and still rule.
Betty a figure head!!!Yes she is OUR figure head.
As I said my old man said he fought under the flag but not for it.He didn’t like it. Didn’t like what the Poms did. There are many who fought under the flag, but don’t like it.
I read the other day that good old Cottees (As in passiona/cordial etc) was acquired by General Foods (America) in 1975, Cadbury (England) in 1984 and then Asahi Breweries (Japan) in 2009.
Rather than worry about the flag I’m more worried about overseas ownership of our businesses and farming land etc. We should be taking a long term view which is not the way our government thinks as they all only worry about the next election.
In a two party preferential voting system, with both sides of politics willing to sell off utilities and resources for a quick buck, do we really have much of a say mate?
As for companies selling out to overseas interests - everybody has a price - particularly shareholders.
Yes ,but doesn’t make it right unfortunately, I have become disillusioned with our political system where there is no real choice between two inept main players and there is too much notice taken of minority interests.
It always amazes me that some of the main protagonists against any sort of change to the WAFL because of its deep traditions and meanings to most footy followers in this state are quite happy to disregard 100 years of tradition and go with a new symbol of our national identity.
Whether you guys like it or not the Flag is who we are and represents for most our original origins.
Stop trying to relate it to some silly feeling of inferiority that you have for Britain and paranoia about all things British.
The Australian flag uses three prominent symbols: the Union Flag, the Federation (or Commonwealth)Star and the Southern Cross.
The Union Flag symbolises Australia’s history as six British colonies and the principles upon which the Australian Federation is based.
The Commonwealth Star originally had only six points, representing the six federating colonies.
Having said that, my parents are against changing the flag, not for any other reason apart from as they say “It’s what they were brought up on”.
If the majority doesn’t want change, then that’s fine by me.
Change should only come when the majority are comfortable with it. If that time hasn’t arrived then probably change shouldn’t come yet.

Fair call that one. hey A/man if you still REALLY think Liz RUNS us then you are mis guided. Still i suppose i can call you a racist now at least, all this hatred for another race ( poms ).
the flag debate forever rears its head whenever a government is looking desperately for ways to divert attention from its failures. all it takes is for a microscopic lint of flag talk to be strategically released, and then we are all off like headless chooks.
we fall for it every 3-4 years.
our flag IS our history. sections of it represent how we were formed whether we like it or not. if our history did not happen the way it did, we would all be speaking chinese right now. you dont think they are throwing their chopsticks against the wall today regretting that missed opportunity.
Woolies offloaded Dick Smith Electronics last year for a major loss. I believe it was purchased by the same consortium that were trying to take over QANTAS.
Yeah but 90% of us born here dislike the Poms
It is an Aussie tradition.
So if that is the case Unka, tell me the changes that have been made to our constitution that say Betty no longer has the control, since 11:11;1975.
Well may they say God bless the Queen :cheer: .
90% eh… just love a man with facts a/man!, and i am proud that of the MILLIONS of people all over this vast land, that you KNOW that 90% is the figure!! Please tell me how much differently we would have done things since 1975 be her there or not.??? Like i said Aussies love giving a bloke a fair go (i love that tradition)…so please tell me if GOUGH got the raw end of the pinapple why didnt our “fair go” aussies vote himback in…simple question.

Sorry to butt in on your argument anchor, but I’m with you here. I hardly think the highlighted comment is the point. I was horrified at the time (and still am) that someone that isn’t part of our country anymore can tell us who will run our country and who can’t. Time to grow up I think and be our own country where mistakes made will be OUR mistakes. Bessie, Kerr and Fraser should have been keelhauled for destroying our democracy.
Well the greater amount of people obviously didnt disagree with liz’s decision. Lucklily she had more brains than some of the voters here then eh 58! Vouldnt have been much of a backlash, against Liz etc, otherwise they would have been voted back in. get what ya deserve!!..probably not intelligent enough i suspect!, would that be the case?
A/man I think we may be on the same side this time. QE II is not, nor was she in 1975, able to sack the Whitlam Government. That was done by Ker in cahoots with Kerr’s cur Malcolm Fraser.
Further I don’t believe she can do it to her Government in the UK.
Bazza it amazes me that people like you and the RSL won’t even allow people to discuss the possibility of changing the flag. We hear about how people died to save us and democracy on the proviso it doesn’t include changing the flag or becoming a republic.
I am by no means denigrating the sacrifices of those who have served Australia well in our many conflicts and I will strenuously oppose anyone who suggests that I am.
However, there are so many spurious, and in some cases factually incorrect, claims about the Australian flag. The most significant reason as to why the ‘Union Jack’ is on the Australian Flag is because it was a specific requirement of the competition.
