The South Australian Football Commission has recommended the Adelaide Crows field a reserves team in the SANFL.
Port Adelaide, on the other hand, would use the SANFL Magpies as its reserves side.
The clubs would be required to commit to the SANFL competition for at least 15 years.
Football Commission chairman John Olsen said the strict proposed measures would help ensure the integrity of the local competition.
At least six of the eight voting SANFL directors now need to approve any change being made.
Opposed to the plan until now, Norwood Football Club president Joe Tripodi said the Redlegs would make a decision soon.
“A calculated decision, not one where it’s shooting from the hip,” he said.
Adelaide Crows midfielder Bernie Vince said having a reserves side could boost development of the club’s AFL team.
“They can play players in certain positions that they want them to play and they can play to our structures and it makes the transition I guess from SANFL footy into AFL footy a lot easier,” he said.
