No details but only months after his past away by suicide.
I am really saddened by this, had met him on numerous occasion both at football but also in his role as the sports head at Perth college, my grandkids ran against his charges in the cross country runs.
Jesus christ surely not? How does this famous football family cope with this? Bloody hell. Condolences to the Selwood family and all his former team mates and friends.
Horrible horrible news,I’ve known quite a few people who’ve gone the same way, including one Loyal Royal, and I’m not sure the public is aware how prevalent this tragic problem is,and just about everyone I know has a family member who is either on,or has been on Anti depressants.
billion dollar industry
that couldn’t be fucked spending a dime on a past player program
but they’ll spend millions on inane worthless self-promotion adverts by the dozen
and create position after new position every single year for their no name mates
this is what happens
and is happening
and it will keep happening more and more
So sorry to the Selwood family. During my hardware years a father and son both committed suicide 22 years apart. I went to both funerals with my colleagues, we couldn’t believe what happened. I can’t imagine what the Selwood family is going through, I really feel for this family.

I am not prone to criticise these day Southerner but there any number of support networks available to ex-players from any sport or calling.
The key point in all of this (and I know personally) you have to want the help first and for most, if you don’t then nothing will help.
WE do not know what his inner most circumstances are and what was in play in his emotions.
I am current on anti-depressants, and they are making me feel worse than I was before, I have an appointment with an Oncology pysch but frankly hold out little hope them making any better about having 2 to 4 years to live.
Perhaps Adam and Troy were so overwhelmed that this their only way out.
I have said this not to garner any sympathy or worry but only to give some understanding of what a deeply personal issue is for anyone going through the black dog emotional journey.
mate I’m sorry to hear you’re having the experience it really is devastating
and I do hold out hope you’ll stick it out
find a way somehow
I do agree there was something that prevented these brothers from accessing help or seeing anybody
Listening to Abc radio last night. It looks like the AFL is talking about a dedicated round from 2026.
A good way to promote public awareness of such issues. Not just for all Aussie Rules footballer’s.But the community in general.
Southerner pretty sure the Afl + clubs will change the way .To find out the way former players are travelling, post retirements.

For what its worth I always consider your comments insightful and thoughtful. You are a voice of reason as a contrast to all the shouting and ranting that goes on. Totally agree with your comments that sometimes all the help in the world will not make any difference unless the person wants to reach out. None of us have any idea how much Adam Selwood was hurting after losing his twin brother.
Grump, I hope you are able to make sense of all the stuff happening to you and find a way to be at peace.
Grump is right undeniably
these guys didn’t for some reason know how to get urgent help
and that’s the place to get a welfare system running
a lot of these people have deep issues stemming from the game demands
and then there’s the concussion injuries
In general my feeling is the rate of suicide for young people generally (particularly young men) has had a dramatic increase. We hear about the public figures who take this horrible decision but it is hard to know how prevalent this is because incidents are not reported.. There are a lot of factors feeding into this issue so like everything, self harm by current or ex footballers is just a reflection of what is going on in the community generally. The difference is that we hear about the Selwoods, Cam McCarthy etc
Grump, it’s a horrible place you are in now, probably a close second to losing a very close loved one. I’ve been to both places, I feel for you.
Advanced cancer, they gave me a 5% chance of making 5 years…almost 20 years down the track and I’m still here. Don’t let anyone tell you how long you have got, I swear some of these people think that they are god.
You are correct, no shrink will be able to help you, the only thing that will help you is hope.
My advice to you, and obviously it’s up to you what you do with it, is to think outside of the box.
Check out things such as Rick Simpson oil, Fenbendazole, B17 etc. Things like that just might save your life as they did for me, lots of anecdotal evidence out there.
Also magnesium and fish oil helped my mental state a lot.
DG and others with kind thoughts, the treatment is a new treatment but relies on the cancer being controlled by hormone treatment, the trouble is that it is in my blood and lymph nodes which cannot be treated. At some stage the cancer will mutate and find something else to feed on.
The main thing is I am dealing my demons and for the most it is just a struggle but sometimes it gets worse. Selwood and hundreds of other men and women deal with and find the only way out is … .
Enjoy the WAFL and the other things you enjoy especially your friends and family oh and see your doctor regularly and ASK questions!
This thread is about Adam Selwood, how about we go back to that!
Grump, the horse had already bolted with me too, I’m still here, cancer free.
If you don’t believe in alternative treatments that’s all good, hang in there the conventional field are making huge advances with AI
