I think it comes down to cattle and I would argue he’s come up against the likes of Geelong ,Hawthorn and to a lesser extent Collingwood, doesn’t change the fact the same game plan does work.
Put Lyon in charge of GWS and I have no doubt they would be playing in a GF.

I think it sounds like it comes down purely to hypothesis.
At the end if the day in any sport defence wins tiltles, premierships etc, and that’s a fact.
