It’s away,with the Opening Ceremony having much of the Colour and magic of the Famous Rio Carnival itself.
Despite all the problems,it will be most interesting to see how it all goes over the next 2 weeks,this being only the 3rd Olympiad to be held in the Southern Hemisphere.Time difference will be a bit testing,with Rio being 11 Hours behind us.
As I mentioned elsewhere,our Archery Trio Won a Historic Bronze Medal against China in the Play-off for 3rd.Well done fellas!
The Swimming Heats commenced with the Campbell Sisters very prominent for Australia.
Our Women’s Football Team are squaring off against Germany at the Corinthians’ Home Ground in Sao Paolo!They are 1 - 0,courtesy of you know who(Sam Kerr),after 30 minutes.
Very heartening to see Sam back after a long term injury wrecked her W League Season in almost it’s entirity.I was wondering about her participation in these games and I am so glad to see her make it to Rio and Brazil.
The Brazilian crowd are barracking for Australia,which is nice.But that might have something to do with what happened to Brazil against the Germans,2 years ago.

Funny thing about that was,I didn’t find it under Olympics at the TAB Results Board.I found it in Football,in the Other Category,then Olympics.A bit strange that one. :huh: : :ohmy:
You mean archery mate…the day Aust wins a fencing medal at the olympics will be the day I barrack for SD gtrxuone!..and Mack Horton won the 400 free…great swim…the Ladies 100 relay were fantastic…esp the last two legs by the Campbell girls…great swim by the Hungarian girl in the 400 medley…great to see no golds for the yanks in the pool…thought no doubt Phelps is lurking somewhere

Mate the kiwi’s are already complaining about their mens hockey loss to Aus and how NZ will win the per capita medal tally…which as we all know is the ultimate prize at every olympics…

A couple of little things of note.
This is the 31st(XXXI) Olympiad.
It is the 1st Summer Olympic Games to fully held in Winter,though it was interesting to note that Wikipedia had the SYDNEY Olypics take place over part of the Winter.(September 15 on).That’s fine if you’re from the USA and Canada,but as far as we’re concerned,Spring had Sprung.Mmmm!
Great to see us in the Gold Medals early, fantastic stuff. Swim team already doing well.
As for Rio, well personaly hard to make a case for a country with so much poverty spending a mint on this.
Thought the crowd booing the Prez was a real downer, dont think Ive ever heard that at a opening ceremony before. The lecture on climate change was the usual BS lip service, they then proceeded to pump a tonne of crap into the atmosphere with fireworks and the sea and rivers are as full of crap as ever.
Well Rio it is and Chicago can always re-apply for a Future Olypiad,though leave 2024 alone.That should go to Paris,100 years after the 1924 Games.
Further Gold to Australia,with Catherine Skinner Winning the Women’s Trap(Shooting),after experiencing great difficulties with what seemed like a Malfunctioning Target.Those who know the Shooting Game can let us in in that one.
A couple of Bronze Medals in the Men’s 4 X 100 Relay(Freestyle or Medley?Didn’t see it) and the Women’s Diving Pairs.Those who know better can expand on that.

The other day they where both training in the pool and Yang splashed at Mack to get his attention.Mack told him to f~off.Something was said before the race and something was said just after Sundays race.The Aussies and Americans can’t stand the Chinese swimmers because of all the drug bans imposed on the Chinese swimmers.
Mack Houghton face book page has had over 40,000 hits from irate Chinese swimming fans.

Well he’s not alone Goat swimmer Phelps has also spoken out and he’s right once you’ve been banned as Yang has it should be for life, should not be allowed to compete at the Olympics again.
