I went down to Rushton Park and had a look at the Peel v Claremont game last week and based on what I saw we will have a tough match.
Whatever problems they might be having with the alignment seems to be gradually smoothing itself out although a few people I spoke to said that there are some severe misgivings among certain players but not others.
Peel now have a core of good players like Cruize Garlett, Hayden Crozier, Brendon Jones, Marlon Motlop, Viv Michie, Kristan Thornton, Matt Orzel, Brad Holmes, Paul Bower, James Hawksley, Peter Faulks and Pat Travers to choose from. A few of their young AFL listed players are a bit off the pace but no more so than the ones at the other WAFL clubs.
Not sure what changes we will make from the South game but so far this season the selections seem to be pretty fair and have been based mainly on form. So the guys who play well in the ressies know they’re a chance.
If you haven’t been to the new facility at Rushton before, do yourself a favour and have a look at it. It’s a proper WAFL ground now. The outer is well kept and about the right size for a WAFL match and the grandstand holds a lot of people and has a couple of bars with TAB facilities and even some imported beers I noticed. There is also a past players & officials outside bar in the forward pocket about where the shark pit is at East Fremantle Oval.
I was surprised at how many supporters they had compared to last time I was there. Only about 50 of the 1400 that were at the game last week were Claremont people.
I hope Subi come to play serious footy in all three grades otherwise we’ll get rolled.
If Callum does come back in, it begs the question who will drop out.
Am I being harsh, or is Clancy Wheeler a bit of a disappointment?
For a guy of his size and athleticism, he doesn’t get many possessions, he doesn’t kick many goals, and he never features highly in hit-outs. I’ve been expecting a lot more of him but he never seems to improve and we desperately need a guy of his size to be contributing strongly.
Maybe he needs a spell in the reserves to give him a message. I would certainly retain Seva Martin over Clancy at the moment as he does well in the hit-outs and may improve around the ground with perseverance.
As for Randy’s replacement, Grover seems the logical replacement if fully fit, otherwise Cullen or Worthington may get the gig.
Can’t make it to the game again this week (not happy as it’s down my way too)-
Have to have a shout elsewhere unfortunatly.
Must admit I think we’ll get rolled in our current form - Hope to be wrong.
Senior players still struggling and the team has to play for each other more.
Skills are a big let-down especially disposal but tackling has been good.
We have to start to turn it around as only beating EP and SF is a worry and
EP could easily roll us next time we play. There has been periods of play where we get it together and look good but we must be more consistant. We’ll miss Randall as he’s a regular winner as is most of our backline.
The on-ballers are getting the ball but their disposal and our forward set-up needs much work. Hopefully we can get it together and be in a position to push for the four shortly but there’s much to do ???
Aside from that some very talented colts coming into the side this week by the looks of the budget list. Hope they do well. It’s a good squad…goes deep to 45 or 46 I reckon, so important that they get their chance.

I heard he had an op (or is having one) and is about 6 weeks away.
Good to see MacDougall running around in the ressies…could be very handy up forward and helping in the ruck during the back half of the season.

Yeah for sure. Hopefully he’s got the cobwebs out of the system and plays a big one. Peel have quite a good ressies side with a lot of locals not able to get a league game so will be a good test for him on his comeback journey.
Is that the midfield or forwards that we lack firepower in ?
McDougall could play as a forward in place of Herring?
Think we are still lacking depth in the mids , how far off is Gum?
Not sure where Gum is at ATM. Yeah, you’re right, JKT, Bristow, Mahoney have been good but the other mids disappointing.
Was good to see Madut taking big contested marks in the ressies and he kicked straight. Would love to have him, McDougall and Martin (And Sinclair when available) in the side to be honest but not sure it’s possible to play so many big blokes.
I still really like the idea of stretching the opposition by resting a ruckman up forward - specially, McDougall, Madut and Sinclair who can kick a few snags.
Big Seva is improving each week and got 43 taps I saw on the stats v Peel.
On the other hand, I know some supporters have faith in Herring and believe he will come good sooner or later.
Yes LH Seva Martin has been very good and is developing well as a ruckman.
Got to get the balance right now with the other talls and not go too top heavy. Would love to see a couple of the other younger mids step up and and support that area more.
