WP V's Black Ducks

Well here we go into the next round - and an ANZAC DAY event to enjoy..

Time for reflection on past valour, honour & service shown by our corragous fallen military, and now time for the WP boys to step up and give a little themselves from a battle waged last week.

The Black Ducks are looking to prove their worth after a slow start to the season and this is a big stage for them to begin thier turn around - WP are in their way and it will be another glorious battle if we are to walk away with the prize as we should do.

Unsure about some of our walking wounded - The WP reserves have a few men worthy of front line placement

Lets see if our Generals lead from the front or as “Pink Floyd” once wrote - from the rear!!

Go boys…

Great summing up Growler  Looking forward to this game on this Special Day - Lest We Forget.
0315 start for the league and 1pm for the Ressies I think? Will there for both.
Both games will be hard fought battle and should be good Footy.

Good call gents, this game could go either way due to the lack of preparation. We have some good players in the dags, I like the look of Marusic, McPhee and of coarse Stockley, he could have been the difference v CL due to our lack of height.

Be interesting to see if Embley will come up Against his old club as had a good game in the Ressies last week? Form good in earlier games as well..

The Eagles are toying with the idea of blooding mature-age draftee Mark Hutchings against the Power after the West Perth product again put in another impressive WAFL performance last weekend.

Hmm how does this effect Thursdays game as WC obviously will not let him play…But then again we will have to get used to it as in 2014 he will be playing for EP if not Eagles

Team lists tonight hopefully?

Just received the WPFC Newsletter. An extract from that below

ANZAC Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day we remember all Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. The spirit of ANZAC, with its human qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity.

On ANZAC day, ceremonies are held in towns and cities across the nation to acknowledge the service of our veterans and in the WAFL we commemorate this historical day with an ANZAC Observance Ceremony.

In the history of the WAFL competition, 99 of our former players & umpires have lost their lives in combat serving this great nation. Their personal service and sacrifice has not only linked our great competition with the spirit of ANZAC, but also left a legacy of mateship, commitment and national pride for those of us here to admire and remember.

An ANZAC Observance Ceremony will take place at 3:00pm before the League game.

FREE ENTRY FOR ALL MILITARY PERSONNEL UPON SIGHT OF UNIFORM, MEDALS OR CURRENT RSL MEMBERS CARD.

JD Cardy?

Shit mate after todays game I need a few drinks.

Outclassed,Outplayed and Outcoached.. Wonder if we had a Match plan? Didnt look like it
Same old mistakes. Turnovers, Let the opposition run free and CONTROL THE GAME, Not attacking in numbers and supporting team mates, Our match plan was blatantly obvious and Swans must of loved it. Always played the same flank to a contest when men were on their own and ignored. No Lateral thinking at all but hey the guys were most probably DOING WHAT THEY WERE TOLD…

Dale Garlett tore us up all day and ran around on his own BOG for sure and instrumental in Swannies win. Well done to them and see a good season ahead.

EF next up at EF oval…Doesnt look good (Except for the Shark Pit)

Dare I say new coach needed to get us going? 4 years now and 5424 positions with a pretty good squad…Will certainly have turn things around big time this year to get a finals berth. :frowning:

Only one game Cardy. I reckon you guys will bounce back against East Freo ( from memory the Falcons have a good recent record there). I think West Perth put a lot into that game at Claremont last week and only had a 5 day turn around from that very physical encounter. I know Swans only had a 4 day break, but it was interesting to hear Tallan Ames admit that Swans probably didn’t play at full intensity against Peel on Sunday, so that they would have something in the tank when they played West Perth. So in a funny way Swans were fresher for the last quarter and this seemed to be proven by how the game went.

We have been fast finishing this year so may be some merit it what your saying Mike. A neutral supporter I spoke to actually called it right today re: that very point, he said that the game v CL last week was a fierce encounter and that Swans would be fresher, Im sticking to that excuse coz we looked frighteningly like last years team !!!

I reckon your too scathing on the players Cardy, I have had time to calm down and the boys have displayed some great footy thus far, so lets stick with them. Amazingly, it did take Swans 3 1/2 qtrs to put us away and we were out and out shite ! (hope thats not too scathing)

Havent given up Leedy as it is a pretty open comp as last weeks results show. Maybe we have to look at giving a couple of the Ressies a run. Sure they would perform. Frank Stockley added a bit of spice and he will improve Should of been bought up last week v CLA
A couple of the ressies that come to mind are
Drew Rhode who has played league and shown some of last years form
Manzone who is a big presence and would lift for League
Embley who has been performing well and getting the stats (thought he would of been in today)
Kristopher Shannon who has been playing well

Just a grab from what I have seen in the Ressies this year.

I think players we could drop are
Anton Saylor
Johnson could come down for a couple as not performing well at the moment

Not that what I think matters but we need to do something and move players around a bit even if just for a couple of games.

Didnt get to go - had to work… :frowning:

Mates from Melbourne over for the week who went in my place said the following -

Thought the footy generally was better here than the VFL in Melb. Loved the Ground said the quality was way above most available in the east

Good contest by many of the players throughout the entire day - but too many simple skill errors at times

they like what they saw in Van Berlo / Manning / Browne & Black – Van Berlo they said was everywhere all day and tried his hardest, good player - Manning they said is a ‘Monster’ and must be a scary dude to face on the field because he bumps and tackles to destroy, loved his guts and constant effort - really skillful, Browne and Black they said were really in the hunt for most of the day but errors from there hand offs down field let them down, then the boys commented many of our high ball getters give it to “each other” all day so bit of a cheat- why not open the game up more?

Mid field missed many of our “open” forwards and tried to score themselves instead

Thought Hutchy was good and hard at it but selfish …(they knew he is Eagles listed)
Lastly they thought we looked tired from about the middle of the 3rd and couldnt work out why the running backs and the mid field would bomb the ball high when we had small forwards and no talls - hard fast low passing and they reckon we would have nailed it…
Of course they also enjoed the Black Ducks game on the day and the fight back they showed and completed to win the game. They had heard about Garlet from over the east but said we let him get away from us, and that he wasnt what they expected from all the rant…good but not special?

I thought the boys had it covered from what I have heard since.

They had a great day - said the crowd was brilliant and into the game - liked the banter between the supporters and said it was friendlier than in Vic, just as torid and one eyed but not personal.
They thought the ladies they saw blew away there counterparts in Melb and lastly asked - who’s the dude who yells out from the WP suporters stand? Do they let him out during the week or just on the weekends?? haha

Hey Growler they reckon Garlett good but not special! Ahahaha mate he was the most talented player on the park yesterday by a street! Those blokes will eat their words in a few years, funny all the guys you mentioned had ok games but wasnt great, Nelson gets a bit of it but his disposal is shocking, Van Berlo is serviceable but no star, Browne did a nice job on Ugle bit overall too many influencial WP didnt fire a shot really like Razor, Guad and Kerr was hardly sighted, in fact i didnt think he was even playing at one stage.
West Perth will bounce back and have a lot more fighting spirit and hardness than last year, and i agree with your thoughts on Manning, he is a good hard footballer, you just lack quality finishers atm to get reward for effort. Stockley was beaten and disappointing, Lammie gave Keunan a bath too and overall i thought our taller players were better, an area i was worried about going in. A long season ahead and i would be happy to be 4/2 with room for lots of improvement

Frank Stockley had a serviceable game for his first League hitout. Noticed He took a bit of a load off Chris as he took the Ruck in the forward line. He will improve after the hitout v Swans and I hope they stick with him.

Lammie appeared to get on top of Chris but looking at the Stats there wasnt much of a difference and Remember Chris didnt ruck that much in the forward line so that must be taken into account. WP HO 34 Swans 28 Ho.

Dont know who picks Best for the teams as found it surprising Garlett wasnt listed for Swans?

Stats stats arent they good?

Hutchy,Van Berlo and Blackie, Nelson(35) Were top Disposal players
We will miss Hutchy if he goes up as very influential out of the Mid field
We might get Keplar back from what I hear on the radio but who can read the AFL?

Anyway here are the stats for what they are worth. Doesnt take into account 1 percenters.
