They combine competitions so that there are enough teams to form a decent varied competition.
Thus Yanchep (WP) might play Dalkeith-Nedlands (CL) or Wembley Downs (CL) or Northern Cobras (S) or whatever the case may be.

I meant why would Swans combine teams in their 16’s & 17’s comp to form just one team in the 17’s.?
surely if they had enough for 2 comps they would have a 16’s and 17’s instead of having 40 players in a team..
Yeah that’s right.
Ocean Ridge, Quinns, Yanchep, Wanneroo, Edgewater-Woodvale, Whitfords and Joondalup-Kinross are WP clubs. With Kingley we and WP share roughly 40% WP/60% S but to be technically correct it fits into the Subi zone by a 400/500m. If you look at the WP Dev squads/colts/res/league you’ll see what I mean.

Maybe I don’t know mate. When a 16’s team decides to amalgamate with a 17’s team usually a lot of the younger boys quit. And I don’t know in each club’s case which was the stronger age group 16’s or 17’s.
I’m guessing though that the distance factor makes it tough for SD to combine with anyone other than EP or P and they already jumped in together.
But it does open up the possibility that Swans, EP and P may combine at some stage in 16’s and 17’s.
Make no mistake I understand that Swans has it’s own problems to deal with in it’s zone. It’s not an easy district to manage geographically. One day it’s going to stretch out to the border of Northam virtually I suppose the way Perth is growing.
There’s one thing I like about SD’s zone and that is I can only see it growing from here as those Hills areas populate further.
West Perth should be the same with the areas growing between Joondalup and Yanchep.
East Fremantle are “landlocked” by South Fremantle to the South and Perth to the East so not sure what happens there in 2017 and 2024.
Peel don’t need all they have in my opinion. South should get back all of Rockingham and the surrounds. That would open up the Southern corridor to EF and allow to Armadale, Kelmscott, Roleystone etc to go back to Perth from south Frem which would allow Redcliffe and Belmont to go to Swans.
All clubs go through golden eras and all golden eras come to an end as ours will. Our strength has been based on a variety of factors. A strong core of players who were never good enough to attract draft interest yet are bloody good at wafl level, canny recruiting (Foster, Blackwell, Andrews, Seaby), good coaching appointments, strong loyalty from fringe players to ensure depth, low turnover of club staff…
Yes we’ve got a good zone but not unfairly good i don’t think. As i’ve said before if you look at the best players to come out of our zone over the last 10 to 20 years its not actually that impressive. East Freo have probably been the best zone in the country in that regard but producing brownlow medallists and all australians doesn’t lead to wafl success. Albany is good to us but so is Geraldton, bunbury, busselton margaret river, Kalgoorlie, Northam… Kimberley has given us little and is a tough zone to make work.
And La hincha i thought Subi just signed another 20 years or so for the seating deal? A couple of million a year for 40 odd years - i don’t think you will be in financial trouble anytime soon.
I get the feeling someone will come on here and bag us for the low numbers in Nolla and Balga but honestly what can you do if kids don’t want to play footy. Subi are putting a mountain of work into those areas too.

LH, It would be interesting to see what shift in numbers, if any, has happened with the enforce movement from KGB to Merriwa, Butler and Banksi Grove. A high number of the old KGB residents were move to the new suburbs to allow for the movement of refugees etc.
It is a demographical issue and perhaps one that only the ABS can answer.
Not Subi’s fault or to be blamed for when both state and fed policies move families etc.
Does that mean Northern Cobras is not going to exist from here on or is there a possibility that Balga and Nollamara might form stand alone teams in 14’s-17’s if the numbers are viable?
