The ol’ Rene from memory called the Albany and Mnt Barker races and i remember in the mid eighties having a fiver for laughs on a horse called Astro Reign at around 60/1 and.I was wondering during the race whether he’d been stuck in the gates because Rene never called him once, and in his inimitable voice which he raised a few decibels in driving finishes he screamed,'‘and here comes Astrooo Reign right down outside and i reckon he’s got up on the line’'i turned around to my mate and told him that i would be waiting for correct weight before i start celebrating, and Rene on this occasion thankfully got it right.
[quote=“gtrxuone post=207165 userid=2215”]No longer a race caller in Australia..Now doing the gallops in Singapore..But was also the main Greyhound caller in WA for over a decade… Craig Evans..

Didn’t he return to Australia two or three years ago?
Yes dogs in Victoria. Hence my comment.
Doesn’t he call races in Dubai as well?
He did at one stage but I googled and maybe he got the sack?

I don’t think they race there during our winter months.

BH will be pissed he missed that one too. Trevor Jenkins was a very underrated sports broadcaster in my opinion. He filled in for George Grljusich a few times on the Saturday morning talk back show and was excellent. An under utilised talent in my opinion. Only flaw he’s a one eyed West Perth supporter. Do any of you WP supporters still see TJ at WP games?
No I had TJ in but somehow I forgot Jimmy Chadwick who was the second best caller I have heard behind only John Hunt.
Not a racecaller but how ordinary is Sky “Expert Tipster” Tony Brassel at picking winners?!
Sheesh if this bloke was a professional punter he would have been eating from the soup kitchen years ago.
Just tipped a short $3 pop (2nd fav) in a 4 horse race and said horse finished 4th of 4 some way from the other 3 and it was in a 1100m sprint!

Totally agree BH. His partner in crime David Gately is just as bad. His strike rate is pathetic. More often than not, he tips short priced favourites who get rolled. Have a look at him on the weekend?

Ajax had won 18 races in a row and started between 33 to 1 on and 40 to 1 on in a three horse race and lost.
Yep they put the kiss of death on it. I get worried when I tip something that they tip as well. I know that it will get rolled. Doesn’t happen very often though because they usually tip the favourite.
