Cockburn is where the future of the dockers lie, there is a massive population there, and all the room to grown and build top facilties, there are only a few hundred people who support the dockers in the town of freo itself, there are 1000’s out cockburn way, plus a state of the art training facility. parking and room to grow.
Freo itself is dated, too small and has no relevance to most of the younger dockers fans that never grew up there.
It was interesting to hear Peter Newman the professor saying that where the Dockers are, or maybe going,is where the new stadium should have been built.
I am now wondering if that means the Cockburn City has to change the colours they use now. They currently use blue and yella and we all know who has those colours.
Maybe I should write tot he CCC and ask them to go to Purple and white.
To be honest I dont even think the City of Fremantle itself is even a football town any more, its more of a greeny arty farty hippy hang out with cafe’s, tourists and so on. Most people you talk to in the street these days in High Street or South Terace would not even know the rules of AFL.
The true footy crowd are now out in the burbs like Cockburn and Atwell etc.
I reckon the City Of Cockburn will relate to the Dockers a lot better than The City of Fremantle.
I reckon that in a decade or so the Dockers will even drop the name Fremantle and just be known simply as the “Dockers” they would widen their supporter base that way.
I would have thought that the FCC would have thrown everything including the kitchen sink to retain the Dockers there. The whole town is in need of something new around the place.
We aren’t going to see another Americas cup again I don’t think. It needs something like that to get the old girl up and running again. She certainly looks very very tired and run down.
Maybe the tearing down of the Myer store and a new hotel going in there may give it some new life but wouldn’t bank on it.
At the moment I see Fremantle a worn out old place.
Maybe the new Dockers training facility and surrounds could have given it a bit of a kick along.
