Does anyone know if they are still considering starting the WAFL season next year at the start of March, and then play the grand final at the end of August before the AFL start their finals. Starting in early March is crazy in the excess heat we often have at that time of year.
When do the actual fixtures normally get released. I thought it was in December sometime but who knows anymore.
Yes that is what’s being considered. And the weather can be damned hot in March. And the Grand Final on the last weekend of August. The fixtures will be released sometime after the uni students have compiled. Usually at the end of December.
Yes West Aussie, with the AFL now bringing in the wildcard round and not having it as a bye weekend, hopefully the wise people at our football commission will keep our season as it is. It’s ridiculous to start in early March and have the whole season finished in August.
If I remember correctly,Townsend mentioned a Wild Card Round would make it difficult for a WAFL Grand Final to get any oxygen.
He also mentioned one or 2 individuals were keen for the restructured Season.Highly unlikely the Clubs would go for it.
On another angle,if concerts are being played On the ground at Perth Stadium, one day after September 30,Perth Stadium Management can stop the facade of not being able to play Football, post the same Date.
That’s a worry, because if Townsend says something won’t happen that makes it a good chance it will happen.
Think he’s on the money here.
How’s a WAFL Grand Final going to get any Oxygen with a Wild-Card Round being slapped down,on the weekend the bright eyed idealists(
)here had proposed.
It would be a Disaster if we had our Grand Final early and now the Cat’s out the bag about events between October 1 and Test time,I think the door is open for a Perth Stadium Grand Final,on Saturday October 3rd!
The Game’s up on your post September 30 BS,Mike(McKenna).
I’ve missed you Grassy!
Cheers Frothy!
I’m a bit more Objective these days, but some things still get me back up!
I find that hard to believe mate…welcome back, always enjoyed your posts…
Ahhh well,I guess we can’t always please someone.
As for the 2026 Fixtures,I’m guessing we’ll see ‘em Mid to Late January.
Reckon the Clubs will be given a Draft Copy to go over few a few weeks and send any suggested amendments back, including when the AFL start their Floating Fixtures.
I guess the problem is,we could have moved our games away from THAT 2nd Eagles/Dockers Game, only to have them drowned out by Bad Weather.
The day before was almost Spring like and Picture Perfect, but still being Winter, maybe the Saturday Games were ok where they were?
I haven’t
I shoulder arms,through to the Keeper,…![]()
So 2026 will be the last ever tradional WAFL fixture with the Foudation Day/ WA Day Long Weekend???
We get lumped in with the AFL Vicco Kings Birthday BS after this…thanks COOKED.
So it’s gone through the Legislative Council,or they just bypassed it altogether?
Welcome back Grassy.
Not sure it’s passed the legislative council as yet. Roger is determined so it either has or will be passing.
With the Greens help, when they should be blocking it to put the Heat on the State Government at Every Turn!
