Ahhh so Aussies playing a district quality side, and smart A$$ Lyon sledges one of their batsman. Just leave it be Nathan, they are well below sub standard.
I saw an article after the first test saying how the Aussies were on the way back. Can’t wait to see the next edition when we win this series!!!
yup mate, typiclal mindless media, any cricket fan knows we are playing Wanneroo seconds. Not sure who they are trying to preach too
Well…that didn’t take long. The Sinhalese were certainly no India that’s for sure. Hopefully it’s just the tonic needed to instil some much needed confidence into the top order as we head towards the Ashes.
In these current times of Aust cricket, any win is a good win…yeah SL were less than average but if Aust hadn’t of won the mood would be even gloomier…one positive batting wise to come out this summer was the form and consistency of Head at 5…still a work in progress, but atleast competed against India’s strong bowling attack without going big, then went big v a weakened SL bowling attack…unlike Harris who went backwards v SL…Cummins showed his wicket taking prowess and ability to bowl fast and long spells…Richardson was a breath of fresh air from the all Baggy Blue bowling attack…wears his heart on his sleeve with less arrogance and attitude than both Starc and Hazlewood show…I guess Richardson will make way when Hazelwood returns, but would prefer Starc and Hazelwood battling out that 3 rd bowling spot. Think Burns will open with Warner v England…Uzzie at 3, Smith 4, Head 5 Patterson 6 …Labuschagne is keen, but don’t think he is good enough to bat 3 4 or 5 v stronger attacks…6 at best…be interesting to see who will be the back up batsmen with the Dukes coming into play late Feb…
SL are off to SA now…poor buggers…been a long summer for them sadly…
Oh boy that will get seriously ugly against the SA bowling attack!
WOW
I think I have just seen one of the greatest Test wins in history by Sri Lanka toppling South Africa in Durban.
Chasing 304 for victory and being 9 down with still nearly 100 to get SL have pulled it off thanks to one of the greatest innings of all time considering the circumstances by Kusal Perera 153* who made the fearsome SA pace quartet of Steyn, Rabada, Philander & Olivier plus left arm spinner Maharaj look like a Primary School attack.
Astonishing cricket and take a bow SL who copped an absolute hammering over here only a week or 2 ago and are still missing Angelo Matthews and a couple of others from their best side!
Another example why Test Cricket at its best is far and away the greatest form of cricket superb stuff SL!
Amazing match Bh.Was a tight test and despite the amazing last wicket partnership. Sri Lanka where allways in this match.
Incredible Test match mate easily in the best Tests I have ever seen in my time up there with the Ashes clashes like the Boxing Day Test in 82/83, Edgbaston Test 05, Adelaide 06/07, the Tied Tests etc.
Fantastic last wicket stand by the SL batsmen…as u say BY, it’s been a long summer for the touring SL side…even if they lose the series…that test win will go down as one of the best…who would of thought hey…the beauty if sport
Theres only 2 tests so they can’t lose the series Freezin. Fantastic performance by Perera and great support act by the number 11,will certainly go down in cricket folklore. Maybe the South Africans relaxed a bit when they got to one wicket from victory and they couldnt find that wicket ball. Obviously Philanders absence made a huge difference but I felt that Duplessis could have given his spinner a chance with about 30 needed as he may have induced an error from Fernando. I thought Rabada bowled poorly.
Certainly a great result for test cricket though to follow up the unexpected West Indies victory over England.
well done to Sri Lanka. The Africans botched the test from the start when they played only five batsmen plus De kock, it was asking for trouble in terms of whether they would make enough runs, One should also blame the captain, because he should have kept a conventional field and tried to get the wicket and both ends. Full and at off stop would have been the order of the day.
The test also shows, in light of all the fast bowlling bumpers by the Africans, how much helmets have changed the game. In simple terms, the Africans would have won that match reasonably easily without helmets as Perrara was hit very badly two or three times and would have been ‘absent injurred’ in the score book.
That was truly one of the great test match finishes. For Perera to bring the final runs up with a six off Steyn and a four off Rabada was just sensational. Funny game cricket. They look shiteful during their tour here but a new captain and a couple of debutants and they play like a different side.
That win is even more meritorious given the diabolical batting of the Sri Lankan No. 11 Vishwa Fernando who surely has to now claim the title of the worst No. 11 ever to play test cricket. He tried to duck just about everything Steyn bowled at him and when he wasn’t doing that he was keeping the square leg ump company jumping out of the way of the ball. Only one scoring shot in his entire innings and he ended up with a 5 for it from 4 over throws! That test had it all!
Jim Higgs has now officially been relieved of the title.
Dazzler just heard the tail-end of them talking about Pierre’s innings V RSA.On Maquarie sports radio..Some cricket analysts put his innings in the top 5 innings in test history.Alan Border in that list with test centurys in the West Indies in the mid 1980’s.So is Sunny Gavaskar for 100’s scored in the Windies.
Don’t get carried away lads – he played bloody well and got his team over the line and full credit to him, but others have played better innings for Australia in South Africa
Mark E Waugh at Port Elizabeth
MIke Clarke at Cape Town
both on very dodgy pitches unlike the one Perara batted on
What about Stokes 250 odd?
They said the best test innings ever was 1971-72.The rest of the world v Australia. In Melbourne in the first innings Lillee bowled 5 bouncers to Sir Garfield Sobers.Got him out for 0 on the 5th ball.
Second innings Sir Garfield scored 256 not out. With 150 runs in boundaries. The best innings in Australia that Sir Donald Bradman had seen.
gtr: yep good one – IM Chappell
has a top three of the following:
Sobers
Pollock – 274
Hughes – 100 not out
In my time, Brian Lara played a couple of innings against Australia which were very good too.
Right up there for me Ark was Ricky Ponting Manchester 2005.Againt a really good English attack. That bowled really well that day.Simon Jones bowled M Clarke with a fantastic ball that day.
Not a bad start from the Sri Lankans in the 2nd Test already having SA 2/15 including Amla cleaned bowled for a golden duck from a inswinger by the left armer Fernando who is now on a hat-trick…and he nearly got it too!
Edit: make that SA now 3/15 after winning the toss and electing to bat and being already 1-0 down in the series.
BH ..Chris Gayle played a blinder in the first ODI v England.
