And another part of the problem is a team has bloody big holes to fill when good players drift away or go elsewhere, and then long term injuries to players happen. Good experienced players can help the younger guys. Clubs should do everything possible to retain players instead of watching them walk away. The young guys try hard etcetera etcetera but they need guidance from the long term players. But if that’s not there, the team just bumbles along. Swans not won a Home game as yet this season. Perhaps they can remedy that in the last Home game of week 22?
Their efficiency rating is the worst in the league too which doesn’t help.
I wasn’t at the game but going by the stats it looks like Bolton may have recieved another five votes, he’s gonna be very hard to stop for the Sandover now and must be a strong chance of getting drafted again, good for him but from a selfish view I hope he’s still playing wafl next year. Looks like Jake Waterman had a very quiet game after a sensational debut - I hope the Eagles hadn’t whispered in his ear and told him to lower his efforts. Unlikely I suppose but you never know.

Methinks he has scored more than enough runs,if one may use a Cricket analogy, for many clubs to sit up and take notice,Tiger.
That being the case, doesn’t that force West Coast to use their Father//Son pick earlier than hoped?

I just wonder at what stage of the 11 inside 50s Bolton had yesterday did the SD brain trust try and negate his influence on the game???
[/quote]
Perhaps BH and you should apply for the coaching position next year.

Only if you join us 42…like the 3 musketeers…one in all in…I’m already looking forward to your 3qtr time speeches

Hmmm with DW not in attendance for many weeks and 42’s tendency of late to leave the ground a tad early it might be left up to me to ‘carry the can’ at the end of the day!
don’t jump the gun lads: Harding has another year, in spite of my best efforts over the last 18 months.
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned as yet was the bizarre decision at the selection table to have the only 2 players currently to have kicked more than 9 goals for the year and that have kicked probably a third of our piss poor goal tally for the year playing Reserves on Saturday?!
How on earth could you possibly think we could amount anywhere near enough goals to make a contest of it let alone win the game!
now now BH, are you expecting some smart selection moves from Harding ?
he decided to tag Bolton with Burnham who ususally spend his saturdays getting stats near the boundary line, 40 possessions later that move worked well.
some blokes get promoted or continue to get a game and have not improved at all, good young kids I am sure but not up to league footy skill wise.
Coniglio gets it a heap but fumbles and cant hit a target 10 metres away and all he and Burham do when they get the ball is kick it sideways, Murray not up to it, the mid-field is a massive weakness and young Logue had to play on-ball, ruck and forward to plug holes and was excellent again.
Erceg very good, Turner kept Richardson goaless which is a great effort as he usually destroys us and Grescos kept Bradshaw to 4 kicks and has been great the last 2 games.
Yukich tries hard but we get nothing from him around the ground and maybe ruck Nuich if his fitness is back, Rudy worked hard up forward but not sure why Cary and Rogers are in the 2nds.
Clarke should come in this week and probably Dean as our mid-field stocks are pretty low.

BH once again you are LYING. Desist immediately.
Surely the club or more to the point match committee has a duty to its members and supporters who have kept the club afloat for decades when all looked lost to be putting its best side on the park from those available for selection?
Far too often for my liking over the last few years we have taken the field with less than our best 22 available and the results are there for all to see at the moment.
This is WAFL League football for goodness sake a League game should be earned through good form.
The disillusionment and disgruntlement amongst so many Swans supporters to our current position means the club has a lot of work to do over the Summer just to win back the faith, we are a very loyal breed but most of us are not completely naive to ALL aspects of the game!
I do query whether Smart and Harding know a good footballer at times, Smart is still living off picking up Nat Fyfe and Harding plays his favourites.
both should be on borrowed time and have had long enough to do something.
What really disappoints me MO is the erosion of a Black Duck culture of never say die that not long back I thought we were developing but with some of the bizarre selections at times we are almost giving ourselves an out as to the continual poor performances on the park.
One only has to look at a club like WP to see how far a culture and ethos of never say die can take a side!

Relax man!
If this season were the 2nd or 3rd year like this then fair enough but until then I think we should have some faith! Last year we missed the finals by a game, the year before finished 4th. It’s been stated numerous times our injury woes and several player departures for a raft of reasons which has left a massive hole.
Picking our best team is all down to perception at the moment but I’m happy for someone not quite up to it to get a game so we can work out whether or not they can play.
I was surprised that both Cary and Rogers played Ressies but both are having interrupted seasons.
Cmon MO! Credit must be given to both for the number of kids we’ve had drafted in recent years?! Add that to the fact we’ve had little to no recruiting and we find ourselves in our current situation on the back of also some unforeseen circumstances. You can’t polish a turd!
Harding to me is more a development coach and is certainly good at getting players drafted, no problems there.
I think that is his go and would be better as a colts or reserves coach as the league side has some baffling selections at times and we have blokes that cant hit targets more than 10 metres away and handball at blokes feet.
we also play a terrible brand of footy, blokes who kick the ball sideways 10 metres to build up stats like Burnham and Coniglio should be either droppped or told to get the ball into our forward line quicker, its terrible to watch.

the real question is this MD…is the ultimate goal for a WAFL team to develop kids so they can go off and play AFL or to win flags? I’ll put it another way…do you consider SD has had a successful season if they get say 5 young fellas drafted or if they play finals? for mine it has always been winning flags as that is what is important for members, supporters, sponsors and I dare say players. now you can criticise Subi all you want for its recruiting policy but imo, I wouldn’t have it any other way if you take into account the clubs success since 2004. sure getting players taken up into the AFL system is good for them and a nice by-product but it shouldn’t be the main aim of any WAFL club.
MD I have been around footy long enough to realise that when you lose a winning culture and ethos it can take a long time to rediscover it. Ask the Perth guys for conformation.
In regards to the selections I’m not only suggesting the Rogers/Cary non selections are bizarre to me young Aidan Clarke is miles above at least half a dozen currently getting a game he is quick (a trait we have absolutely none of at present) can use the footy by hand and more importantly foot well and over a distance. Alby Dean is another who’s non selection has me stumped. I would have thought if a player that struggles to impact at Reserves level he is fairly certain to struggle at League level also wouldn’t you think? I hope I’m wrong in thinking some of these selections of late are for convenience reasons only as I said previously you should have to earn a League berth at SD in my books and not to see if a player will make it and or not!
Clarke would be in the best 5 kicks at the club and is a good prospect, a waste him playing reserves, kicked a goal into the breeze from outside 50 on saturday.
Dean played some top games earlier in the year and then 1 bad game and is dropped.
I cant work it out either.
and recruit some blokes who can kick more than 10 metres !

We all want to win a Grand Final! Reality is that only one team can do so and only one team can afford to place themselves as genuine contenders EVERY year.So unless you’re primed and ready to go then the next thing to worry about is development and draftees. In an ideal world we’d play finals and have boys drafted and in recent years that had been the case. It catches up with you as we are now seeing.
As stated before,it’s not like we’ve been languishing at the foot of the table for 3-4 seasons. Yes this is a bad year but with some quality players returning and a bit of a change up around the club I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We only need to look at South as to how quickly it can turn around.

I think you’ll find some of the boys getting games are more deserving than blokes that aren’t and it’s not purely based on how good you play on a Saturday afternoon. I’d much rather have a lesser light that gives 100% all of the time than another who gives 90% sometimes.

There is a tension between the two areas. As a paying member I expect some value for my money and to be honest I haven’t got it this year. However as MD says this year needs to be seen in the context of the bigger picture in that Swans have bottomed out after a decade of either being in finals or strongly challenging for them. You also have to take into account that due to financial constraints the club has not been able to recruit for a number of years and therefore has been forced to develop its young players which has its up and down sides. There will be a better perspective on the situation in 2017 and I would be very concerned if there is not some sort of improvement in the group from this year.
