Bring out the flags, Strike up the band…..finally Blake Kelly gets a game. Better late than never I suppose. Good luck to the young man and I hope he will get an extended run in the team to enable him to show his wares similar to what has happened with Steed. Ethan Kane also rewarded for good form in the ressies
Overall it looks a better balanced team than last week, a bit more pace and they will need it because Perth are a very good team, better than Subiaco IMO.
With conditions looking a bit dire, the game may be a slog fest. Clean skills matter even more in the wet and I fear thats where Perth have a big advantage.
The Demons will see this as a great opportunity to consolidate their position in the top 5 and I think they will get home by about 5 goals
Yawn. Season is over. Didn’t go last week. I knew that what should have been an intense battle between two teams with the challenge of reasserting themselves would in fact turn out as it did. Not going today, or any time soon. Turnout for Subi game seemed poor. Should be a concern. Do the Victorians have guaranteed games in their contracts? How much is left on the peanuts’ 20 year plan?
Never really considered leaving a game at half time but I might today. A disgraceful performance by Swans. Zero effort. None of them look interested. Perth are outnumbering Swans in every contest. If they hadnt wasted some opportunities they would be 12 goals in front.
Im not sure what was said in the rooms at half time but we saw the worst half of football from Swans all year followed by the best half of the season. Dont underestimate what they did in the 3rd to stem the flow of scores for Perth when they were going with the breeze. I didnt expect the flood of goals in the last quarter though
Moving Steed & McLachlan in to the middle at half time changed the whole game, finally a move by the coach and it pays dividends. They finally not only won the ball first on most occasions but they actually played tight in there and put some physical pressure on Parfitt, Constable & Byrne who were given far too much latitude in the first half!
Great atmosphere in the rooms and upstairs afterwards, more of that style of footy would be nice!
My first game for a while. While a wonderful win, I do not think the result a turning point in the season. Rightly, there are questions being asked on the P vs SD thread of Perth’s genuineness as a finals teams - and in the second half they were very poor and they let Swans back in.
Congratulations to Kelly B. on his debut, and to McLachlan and Turner for their final quarters.
I think we lose Steed to the WA 18s champs soon, hopefully one of the young blokes in the Development side steps up in his absence as he has been fantastic the last few weeks and really leading from the front for one so young.
Very impressive debut from Blake Kelly capped off with a goal. Ethan Kane was also prominent.
Hopefully we can bottle up the momentum that we built in that last quarter and take it down to Mandurah next week!
Still scratching my head wondering how we won that. Have to give the coach credit for the changes to the midfield and game style at half time.
Having said that I thought Perth played into our hands by going passive and trying to defend their lead rather than attack. 1 or 2 goals by the Demons in the first ten minutes of the last quarter would have taken the oxygen out of the fightback
Hard to believe Perth losing this match. On the other hand Swans have breathed a bit of life into the competition. Strange to see one team only score 10 points in the first half and in arrears by 39 points at the long break. Perth only scored 9 points in the second half, and being over-run. Not sure what the Swans coach said or did at half and three quarter times, it obviously had the desired affect.
Swans scored 43 points in the final term. That is more than the 3 previous 4th quarter scores all combined.
It will give Swans confidence on the road next week. Hopefully they keep the momentum going.
