Congratulations to Josh Cipro for winning his first Swan medal, well deserved for a consistent season
Now we can rule a line under 2026 and start thinking of what Swans need to do to push up the ladder and be contending for finals next season. A better run with injuries would be a start!
Maybe with a new face on the board (Mike Richardson) things may change or rock the boat slightly. May have to wait till we find out who the new president is.
Fingers crossed that there are some changes. There were 40 players used during the season. Typically finals teams use about 30 -35. Only 4 guys played every game. Some key players only completed a handful of games. Jhye Chalcraft didnt play at all. Swans are now developing a good big man brigade with Impey, Ernst and Smith. Hopefully some of the premiership reserves team will be able to nail down a regular spot in the league side.
The priority for the off season should be further developing the skills of the players to hit targets more often and putting in place a game plan that the group can realistically implement.
Reports emerging this morning that Nathan Broad is in full training and wants to continue his footy career in Perth. The Dockers have said no but the Eagles may pick him up given his links to the coach. If that doesn’t pan out, I would hope that Swans make him an offer. He would be an invaluable player both on and off field to give the young guys the benefit of his experience
Up against it if the AFL Clubs offer these guys Coaching Roles, whether accreditation is required or not.
Happened to us when Tendai was thinking about rejoining us,on return home from GWS,when in swept Freo and Peel and we lost him.
Don’t blame Muzzie for that, but I daresay there were other factors afoot to prise him from our List, which he wouldn’t know about, nor would they ever let on.
I was thinking even if the Eagles don’t have a place for Broad on their AFL list they may well offer him a off field coaching role and the captaincy of the WAFL team. Hard for Swans to compete with that
They have to be accredited. Did my level 2 with a couple eagles about 10ish years ago. Back when getting coaching accreditation was earned. Now I am expected to sign off on level 1’s who haven’t even attended any sort of formal training to then be selected to attain their level 2.
Disgraceful what they have done to AFL coaching accreditation over the last 10 years.
As expected Nathan Broad has scored a coaching role at the Dockers. Not sure if he will play for Peel as a part of it. That is a good outcome for his career and his family but disappointing for Swans.
