Swan Districts v Perth Round 8

Potential Banana peel game in more than Banana peel weather.

Swans supporters have been complaining quite a lot about Andrew Pruyn’s Coaching and the fact he hadn’t been picking promising youngster Blake Kelly.

Well he’s picked to play League for Swans at last for them.I’m sure they’re not expecting him to be a Messiah, but I daresay he’ll be one we’ll have to keep a close eye on.

I’m sure we’ll do that, but worry more about how we play our game in whatever conditions present themselves.

If the Weather holds off until after 5(possibly later),then the ground won’t be too heavy in light of recent rain.

If it does come in earlier,be prepared for a fair old slog and to really get your hands dirty to earn the 4 points!

Reckon Swans will be desperate tomorrow,as a Loss could be potentially season ending for them, sitting at 2 - 6.

I’m sure we’ll desperate enough ourselves to get the Win and get us to 5 - 3,as an untimely Loss puts us back in the pack at 4 - 4.

Angus in for Oscar HB.

Hope it’s nothing serious for Oscar having seen him walk up the race during the game without being in any great distress.

Ressies have a big game as well, testing our good form with 3 straight Wins against an Unbeaten Swans Team.

Hard to know where the Colts are at if they’re solely playing 17 year olds, without a few bigger players that are 18,or occasionally 19.

Won’t be easy against a Swans Team that have a put a couple of Wins together of late.

Best of Luck to ALL 5?Teams,with the Women Dees playing Claremont in the slush and mud at Claremont tomorrow.

I’m surprised at the inclusion of Luers. Firstly, he’s a good reserves player, but I don’t think he will ever make the leap to league level. Secondly, why bring in a tall player to replace a small, especially when conditions are likely to be wet? I have real concerns that we will be top heavy and slow. I appreciate that there is not a great deal of pressure coming from the reserves, but I would have gone with Moore or Gray. SD have been competitive all year, as evidenced by a % of 86 despite only two wins. We should have the edge in class, but it is likely to be a low scoring game.

You’d be hard pressed to convince Swannies Supporters they’re better than their Ladder position.

They’ve been on Andrew Pruyn’s case for being ultra defensive,…ever get the feeling that will change tomorrow?

Bitter Postscript - It Bl**dy well did!

Season over?

Finals teams do not lose by 8-10 goals against other finals teams. Finals teams do not drop a 42 point lead. Perth are not a finals team.

How pathetic was that. Not a single leader stood up in the second half. We legit lost every contest. Every clearance, every ground ball, every contested possession against an ordinary team. Disgraceful undisciplined acts cost us two goals which was the difference in the end. That was horrific after being all over them at half time

A disgrace

Need to find a few extra numbers through the middle. Parf, Charlie and burna just have to do to much.

Played like millionaires in the 2nd Half and PAID DEARLY for it!

Even at three-quarter time being five goals up, I knew we were looking down the barrel of an embarrassing loss.

We should’ve put them away third quarter,Did NOT and SWANS came home with the Proverbial Wet Sail.

I’m going home!I’ve Spat the ‘ole Dummy,…. Sheesh!

Or EVERYONE could just stay SWITCHED ON the FULL 4 QUARTERS!

The WHOLE TEAM Onfield can COP THE BLAME for this DISASTROUS Result!

Only one way to answer the Criticism and not just 1 week,…SEVERAL!

A 23-11 free kick count didn’t help. Probably the only positive was an improved game by Cachard. But yes, finals are beyond us. I said before that our only chance was to beat the likely bottom 4 teams and grab a win or two against teams around us. That objective is gone. We now play S, SF, C and EP in the next 4 weeks. We will almost certainly lose all of them, and possibly quite badly, so that will be 5 consecutive losses. That will leave us 4 wins and 8 losses away 12 games. We have an easier run home, so hopefully we can win 3 or 4 in the run home and finish 6th with 7-8 wins - the kind of season we would have been delighted with just a couple of years ago.

We always play badly kicking into a breeze, but is there is no game plan where we can slow the game down? If we could have kept SD to one goal in the first 10 minutes, we would have likely held on. But we got beaten out of the centre every time, despite the credentials of our midfield, and they kicked three quick ones. From there, panic set in and our backline seemed to lack composure, even Charlie Dean.

Can understand the gloom and doom after a Bad Loss, but I’ll hold my thoughts on our Direction for a few weeks yet

I think our guys fell into the classic trap of sitting on a good lead, instead of RAMMING THE ADVANTAGE HOME for a THUMPING WIN!

Funny thing is,we aren’t the 1st to do that,we certainly won’t be the last.

If the Boys’ Ears aren’t Stinging after this from the Coach, the raft of Criticism from Supporters should Burn their Eyes,Heart and Souls!

But(and I know you guys probably Hate my NFL References)something for the boys to get worked up for next week -

“I don’t know how we Lost the Game, why we Lost the Game. What I Do know is,whoever’s up next week,You’re in Deep,Deep,Deep,You Know What!”

Dwight White,4 Time Super Bowl Champion for Pittsburgh Steelers!

That should be the attitude of ALL our Playing group,EVERY WEEK!

Was it Watson that turned over two of our shots on goal manhandling opponents. Terrible if so.

Some years ago now, a mate of mine, a former board member, told me about a conversation he had with a board member of a rival club. The rival club said Perth were perceived as weak. He said if you kept coming and, in particular, kept running, Perth wouldn’t go with teams. Seems not much has changed. SD did in q 3 what we couldn’t - or wouldn’t - do in q4 - they made it an ugly scrappy game which prevented us from using the wind to extend our lead beyond 50p. We then failed to do the same in q4. No-one was running in the last, no-one presenting, SD first to the ball, loose players everywhere. Terrible effort from Parf in the last, when his opponent turned goal side, Parf went the other way, fell over, and the goal was kicked, to level the scores. Our most experienced player getting pantsed in a one on one says it all. Yes, Watson, Kluske, Wills, Luers, Paton and plenty of others were very poor - but once again, there is nothing coming through the reserves. We missed Johnno - anyone know why he missed?

Perth should of been up by 10 goals at half time. The 1st half was the worst and embarrassing half of football since John Todd took over. We (swans ) were pathetic to say the least. Completely beaten in every position. But that comeback was unbelievable. Perth Was torched in the last quater. Maybe we shouldn’t of won from the position we were in at half time. End of blurb

Whoever it was(and I was looking for an easy shot on Goal)could not have picked a worse time to have a Brain Fade,by getting sucked in by any nonsense from Swans.

Terrible lack of Discipline!

That must be some sort of a record.

Well I sure hope it wasn’t anyone from last week’s opposition or another WAFL Club who lost to us,…or 2 AFL Clubs whose near full strength AFL sides lost to us.

But seriously,Stoney just needs to set them straight from within,so our Team only worries about matters from within.I’m not too fussed about what outsiders say and the boys shouldn’t be either.

Let’s just move on to next week and look forward,NOT back.

We can be Annoyed about today’s result, but not haunted!

Ted you are right about our inability to hold sides when kicking into the wind. However I think the damage was done in the third quarter when we had the strong wind. We kicked 1.1 to Swans 2.4. It was evident early in the 3rd that Swans had come out prepared to run on and create opportunities. On the contrary we came out looking llike we just had to go through the motions. The key turning point was when Clarke’s free kick got overturned and Swans ended up kicking a goal as a result. Instead of being 7 goals in front of we were only 5 in front and looking very nervy going into the last quarter. I don’t know what happened in that incident, whether it was a lack of discipline or a bad umpiring decision but it proved very costly.
