scratchy vs ferals

Jeez 1 game into pre season and it sounds like everyone writing them off. Give em a go half the side changed and a new coach and game plan give it a chance . I didn’t think everyone was expecting miricales. I thought at times when they stuck to the game plan and structures all went well. Time will tell and that’s why they use pre season to test things out to see how it all works. It’s 1 game down, how about if they are zip and 4 by round 4 then maybe things look grim but until then how about giving them a chance.

Positives were raised and negatives were raised and as you’d expect with a 1 goal to 9 scoreline in the second half some disappointments were expressed.

Perfectly normal stuff on a footy forum post game.

Imagine what it was like in the heydey of the WAFL. ‘The Daily News Green Pages’, ‘The Sunday Times’, then ‘The West Australian Monday’ examining every positional success and failure, talkback radio on fire. George Grjlusich getting stuck into anyone in range. (Specially non-South supporters). “The Hood” firing barbs in Westside Football on Thursday and the likes of Mark “Jacko” Jackson taking aim in his weekly column.

It’s all gone soft nowadays.

Looks like JKT went all right.

Did McDougall play? If so how did he go?

Cheers

Yes JKT was a shining light, only aspect of his game was that he sprayed a few kicks but then it’s the first scratchy and he knows how to get the pill, looked very fit and focused.

Buddy boy is right it’s a first up scratch match and a heap of players yet to show their wares. The 3rd and last scaratchy v Claremont will give a better indication of where we are at. Their ruck combo of Seaby and Andrews will be hard to combat and will give their stellar midfield an armchair ride. Tiges are still my tip to go 3 in a row. Although if Cox & Nicnat stay fit the ferals will have Lycett to team up with Johnson, they will be more than a match for Seaby & Andrews.

I believe that half of our senior players were in Kalgoolie for junior coaching!

SS I take it McDougall didn’t get on the park?

No. While away yet.

Maybe JKT and his Perth mates McDougall and Assistant Rick Curtis have brought their fadeout culture with them to Subi

We were fading out last year in most matches. Usually 2 and a half quarters and we were gone sadly.

I can see why a few people were disappointed with the game because 9 goals to 1 in the second half was a bit like last year.

Having said all that we were without Dom Sheed, James Garcia, Andrew McDougall, Dan Leishman, Nathan Phillips, George Hampson, Antoni Grover, Brad Stevenson, Buddy Pickett, Callum Sinclair, Cam Wohling, Aidan Parker, Rhys Waters, Mark Nicoski and it’s fair to say all are at least in the first 25. Plus a few others like Moore, Martin, Smith, Norriss, Hoskins and Bogensperger who would be close as well.

And that Daniels you gave us can play. Hard at it. Didn’t you guys rate him that highly?

Daniels walked out after not getting picked in the finals teams, pity as he would have been a walk up start this year.

with 14 guys to come back in Subi will be looking top 4 for sure..

Walked out? ok. Hope he sticks around for us.

That’s no good, I have a lot of time for Dougs.

He played some great footy for us.

Hopefully we see him play at some stage.

Nathan Phillips too. I wish that bloke would have some luck. I’d donate a portion of my own knee cartilage if it would help him.

LH the comments that were passed on to me were that EP boys were surprised by the hardness in the first half but that seemed to disappear after half time. They did say that that was in poart to the EP gameplan being played properly and that Subi did not know how to respond.

It seems then that question is perhaps abt game plans and not fitness.

Many comments from the co tennants support staff indicated that on the track subi are very fit and willing to attack the ball but like so many things what works on the training park takes time to develop in a real game, scratch or not!

I would be a little more worried abt the depth of the subi squad, despite those t listed earlier as returning, your ressies got well beaten by a largely last year colts team, that would be a bit of a worry.

Good to hear that the boys were rated as hard at the contest in the first half.

Yeah Grump, depth will be a concern. Big turnover this year. Something like 30 or so different names from the round 1 squad of 65 or whatever it was at the start of 2012.

Very difficult to replace even with the 12-15 colts coming up, a handful of recruits etc..so yeah might be some tough days in the ressies with a few ammos on board even.

But still, I’ll have a look at who didn’t play from the entire squad. It might add up to about 20 something.

East Perth looked good. I guess Maldenis, Anderson, Lee and Swan would be certainties to be in the first 22 normally, plus 3 or so Eagles. Should be a top 4 side mate.

20 exactly I make it. Should make a difference come season proper with a bit of luck.

I wonder what the average weekly injury list is like at a WAFL club nowadays?

What I mean is, on average each week, how many players are unavailable due to injury at each club.

I’d guess in a squad of 60 + it would be somewhere around 6 to 10?

From what I have been told, Worsfold has told EP that there will only be 4 WCE per week this year.

That could be right as all the WAFL clubs keep whatever players they currently have until next year.

So that means there could be half a dozen WCE listed players running around in the magoos or they just don’t play them at all? Won’t that raise the eyebrows of WAFL clubs who have had to put up with a lot of whinging over the years when they have wanted to drop an AFL listed player to the ressies because his form didn’t warrant league selection?

Well, East Perth realistically only have Morton, Cripps, Lycett and Wilson to choose from anyway. Unless the Eagles drop a Cox, Wellingham, Selwood or Rosa.
