Save the WAFL Committee

Reading that it has come down to money. It appears the G7 Presidents have bowed to the WAFC and are going for more compensation. :frowning:
So many more issues must be addressed if the WAFL is to survive and the Tradition to continue.
Raitt appears to be agreeing in that he said
QUOTE
Raitt told 6PR although he understood the desire of West Coast and Fremantle to have an alignment arrangement in place, the seven remaining WAFL clubs needed to be compensated.

“I suppose in a perfect world we would have nine clubs with no alignment,” he said.

"But knowing the Eagles’ and the Dockers’ needs we can understand why they have gone this way.

It is not good enough and if it comes down to more extreme measures by the G7 SO BE IT. Our traditions and constitution are being thrown out of the window plus the uneven playing field.

The whole comp is a shambles now and from now on..East Perth eagles are going to be absolute tainted power houses now, i dont know how any fan of theirs can possibly accept this, their premiership drought will forever be locked in at 35 years now

West Perth WA 6005

Dear Terry

I recently met with the President of the Swansmen Association, George Copley who has brought to my attention serious concerns about the future of “non-aligned” WAFL clubs.

The concern of George and others has been caused by the recent agreement made by WAFC, the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers clubs on the AFL Partnering Model or alignment, with East Perth FC and Peel FC.

I am informed there was no impact study carried out and little consideration given to the seven non-aligned Clubs, or their sponsors volunteers, members, supporters and the WAFL in general. Even the members of Peel FC and East Perth FC were not notified of this plan until after it was signed on 29 October 2012, consequently they were not given the opportunity to vote on the matter.

This led to the formation of two groups concerned over the future of the WAFL, the G7 comprised seven non-aligned WAFL Presidents and Save The WAFL Committee, comprised members and supporters from the WAFL. Save the WAFL was formed to voice their concerns of the WAFL Alignment, raise money for campaigns, raise public awareness and work with the seven non-aligned clubs and state and federal ministers to secure better outcomes for the competition.

The newly formed G7 handed down a 32 point report soon after the meeting with all nine WAFL Clubs, which has now been condensed down to 11 points. The main concerns are that AFL rookies will no longer play at their original clubs, potentially leading to a lop-sided competition. The salary caps and funding arrangements of non-aligned clubs are inadequate to compensate for the likely loss of talent. Other concerns relate to the WAFL player points rule, the Player Service Agreement and the future structure of the WAFC.

This Alignment agreement is a major talking point with in and out of the WAFL community and in various media outlets. A petition has also been set up to oppose the alignment at www.savethewafl.com. With so much concern over the alignment it has been suggested that the agreement should be suspended until an impact study can be carried out independently of the WAFC and the two WA AFL Clubs.

As I am sure you will agree that the WAFL competition is an important part of our state’s sporting history and culture as well as a vital training ground for future AFL players. It is vital we do not compromise the integrity of this competition through actions which are appealing in the short term but may well be detrimental to the future of football in WA.

Yours sincerely

Good to see George. Glad to see someone is putting their money where their mouth is.
Doing well with the stickers and a few donations made. Gotta get them stickers on cars etc etc to let people know whats happening because a lot of people out there are not aware of the situation. I have had a few WAFL supporters quiz me and very surprised to hear about the alignments. Not that the WA media is helping a lot.

Hey people sign the petition. 435 is not enough the link is in my signature box.
Click on that to sign and support the WAFL

Include your wife and kids as well if you like.

WAFL G7 clubs meet tomorrow to finalise boycotting of matches. Still no change to their financial compensation from WAFC

If you listen to Hagdorn on 6PR he is adament that not once has boycotting games been mentioned by the G7, surely he is full of shit as usual?

He’s a AFL “yes man” so he prob doesn’t want to rock the boat or seem to take the WAFL’s side or point of view - even if he knows that boycotting’s a chance???

The PR station is a bit of a joke! Someone was saying a meeting is planned by the remaining 7 clubs tomorrow to discuss the boycott idea? I myself am hoping the boycott comes to fruition. But  don’t tell anyone on PR I said that. They certainly would not like to hear it!

Smart faces ban over scoreboard shenanigans
John Townsend, The West Australian June 3, 2013, 7:30 am

Veteran football manager Phil Smart faces a suspension and two Swan Districts board members could be sanctioned over the scoreboard prank at Steel Blue Oval last month.

And in a dramatic escalation of the tensions in the WAFL over the alignments with the two local AFL clubs, West Perth president Brett Raponi has also been asked to explain an inflammatory tweet over today’s WA Day derby against East Perth.

Using Twitter to promote the WAFL’s official rivalry round, Raponi used the hashtag #defunctroyals to refer to West Perth’s traditional rivals.

Smart is set to discover tomorrow the extent of a WA Football Commission penalty after Swans briefly used a West Coast nameplate instead of East Perth for their match in round nine.

The nameplate was removed after a few minutes following a complaint from East Perth president Bronte Howson.

The Royals made it clear that they did not want to pursue the matter.

WAFC chief executive Gary Walton asked Swans boss Tom Bottrell for an explanation and competitions director Grant Dorrington counselled Swans president David Parkinson over the affair.

The commission is understood to be under significant pressure from West Coast to take further action.

Under WAFL rules, a first offence of behaviour detrimental to football is liable to a fine of not less than $500.

The commission investigation found that Swans planned a series of protests during their game against East Perth, including using the West Coast theme song when the Royals players ran on to the field and offering half-price entry to any Eagles members.

The WAFC marketing department may consider the latter idea for next year when full AFL partnerships are introduced to the WAFL.

Smart’s lengthy career includes stints as a premiership football manager at Claremont and the head of Fremantle’s recruiting department.

Raponi became the subject of an East Perth complaint over his tweet last Thursday when he urged supporters to attend the match at Medibank Stadium today.

Raponi suggested it would be the second-last meeting between the arch rivals as traditional foes.

“Come along & see Falcons dismantle @EastPerthFC for just the 2nd last time in WAFL #defunctroyals,” he said.
Raponi’s tweet follows his revelation last week that West Perth would attempt to recruit East Perth forward Josh Smith when the AFL partnerships took effect next year.

WHEN ARE THE WAFC AND THE WET TOASTERS GOING TO GET A SENSE OF HUMOUR.
FAIR DINKUM, WAKE UP WAFC AND MAKE THE WAFL BETTER THAN IT IS, NOT BY TRYING TO DESTROY IT AND BEENING IN BED WITH AFL.
LISTEN TO THE VIEWS OF PEOPLE SUCH AS, MEMBERS,SUPPORTERS, PAST PLAYERS,OFFICIALS, AND VOLINTEERS OF THE WAFL. NOT THE AFL AND IT’S MONEY.
JUST REMEMBER THIS IF IT WASN’T FOR THE WAFL THERE WOULD BE NO WA AFL CLUBS.
AND GET YOUR HAND OFF IT WAFC.

My thoughts exactly George. Ye old football commission will not like your comments however.
I find this line interesting whereby royals wish to not pursue the matter.
But then the article says the commission is understood to be under significant pressure from big brother to take further action.
Considering this still is supposed? to be the wafl? why is big brother involving itself with placing pressure on the so called footy commission when they should just bloody clear off!!?
Obviously the wafl fans are not being listened to and said commission is sadly lacking.

East Perth are a disgrace. The people running the wafl are in the eagles pocket.

What the hell is happening to the world? Everyone has lost their good old Aussie sense of humour. WAFC - you are a bunch of stale old fuddy duddies that need to be sent off to retirement and a bunch of younger, fresher faces left to run the league. If Swans cop a fine, I hope that they set up a fund for we, the WAFL public donate to pay it. Sure, it’s only $500, but it’s the principle - stuff the WAFC regime.

East Perth are a disgrace. The people running the wafl are in the eagles pocket.

Muppet why are EP disgrace, all we did is ask for the sign to be removed. We did not treat Swans with any disrespect, we have not pursued the issue, that would be a WAFL or WAFC issue, we did not ask your co jim henson muppet to coment on twitter he did that by himself,

You need to get your facts right before you label anyone a disgrace. Oh and George why is ok to discuss the sign now and not before!

Because I can Grump!!!

Simple really the WAFL/WAFC realise there decisions are wrong and they cant handle the truth.. There only interest is appeasing the AFL clubs and stuff the WAFL or what it thinks.. Gee its going to be fun next year.
They are so thin skinned as soon as people bring it to media or public attention they crawl under a rock and start using regulations in a Book that now is not worth the paper it is written on.. We only have to look at the Points system/Salary caps etc etc etc..
What a mess… but they will rewrite the WAFL constitution and rules to suit themselve and any problems they have with those two clubs will be to make the rules exempt for them… Yeh sure we live in a great democracy but this is far from it. :frowning:

Yep, agree. The WAFC is governing like a tin-pot dictatorship that intimidates any individual who has a different viewpoint.
