McGowen fell of the back of a ute up north in the off season, paraplegic I think

Yes that is right DG he was a very good junior played WA Teal Cup, League footy at 17yo etc before his tragic accident. He has had a fair bit of success as a racehorse owner over the years tho.

Rod Buckenara had an accident on a treadmill in the 1979 pre season which peeled the skin off his hands. He tried to make a comeback by wearing gloves but unfortunately the skin on his hands would split when the ball hit them

Just for you as requested AR and following your lead of players who missed large chunks of games or had their career ruined or ended through injury in my time following at SD-

Fair list there, quite a few had long careers also.

Not so sure about Cransberg, more than a fair player and could have done a lot more at an AFL level. However I think it was his professional career and not injury that ended it.

Yes that is true Oool that his professional career ultimately ended his footy career after the 1983 Premiership win but I think you will find he missed a whole season of footy in either 1979 or 1980 due to injury!

Rhodes came to Subi with a big reputation but never really lived up to it at Subi. Remember him kicking a few goals for us in 1977 playing as a half forward but went back to victoria at the end of that year. Only played 48 games in the four seasons with Subi.

I was involved in that car accident with Shane, some much potential but unfortunately ended up a quadriplegic.

Sad indeed ando. How did you pull up from it?
