Apart from your’s truly noting his opinion based on Scientific Fact(he didn’t say who there mind you),the concussion protocol should be 28 days, judge for yourselves what he said on Sports Breakfast this morning,on Sport FM.
Haven’t seen or heard about that, but it does seem that the present day restriction doesn’t seem long enough.
I wonder what the 18 clubs responses would be. The AFL may shudder at 28 days break.
They might, but they might have to Deal with It in the long run, where ultimately each player’s health, safety and well being is placed over and above everything.
That should permeate across all the Competitions mind you.If Clubs end up a few short the Occassional weekend,so be it!
I think the AFL as “leaders” of the game are pretty blase about how the rule operates. They make out they want to be tough, but not to tough.
I see the rejection of the Andrew Brayshaw issue, though it appears not the AFL stance, should raise warning sirens.
Doesn’t bode well for future patients.
There’s some fairly strong evidence supporting the 28 day break. if it was an ankle or a hammy etc and you missed 4 weeks nobody questions it but 4 weeks out with concussion…not sure the AFL community has moved forward enough culturally from relatively recent times where you went back on if your concussion symptoms werent too bad.
What’s an extra week or 2 out for the potential of a longer career and more importantly a better quality of life?
I wonder how long it will be before there is an “expert” takes the AFL or another sporting organisation to court to challenge them.
What are the protocols for the NRL?
Do they operate the same as the AFL?
Did any one see Brownies interview on Tuesday Night on Fox?
NRL is 11 day minimum, 19 days at community level for under 19s
They’ll have their own problems on that one,….
11 days for a Sport that is still High Impact is nowhere near enough a lay off for players!
I am not sure that they shouldn’t be making it different times with how many you have had over time.
Like the kid from the EAgles Harry Edwards, three this year. Not a good sign.
Players from the real WAFL clubs have to sit out 3 weeks but the precious Freo & Weagle listed players only have to miss 1 game.
Apparently they recover faster from concussion FFS!
The AFL will eventually have NO CHOICE but to make it a 28 Day Protocol for ALL COMPETITIONS,MINIMUM!
