Ongoing Drama with Venues West........AGAIN!!!

bh: yep, had a grand father born in the UK whom followed Cl from 1928 to his death in the 80s; god parents whom came here in the 50s, whom followed Subi and WP; the old auntie used to catch four buses to and from the hills to watch WP into the late 80s; she was great and loved the club. Even my neighbour, whom used to take me to watch EF and Subi, here and there, was an Englishman.

The soccer lobby has always talked itself up about how they will take over Aussie Rules, and although they have impressive junior numbers its not reflected in the quality of the current national team, when you consider they had players like Viduka,Kewell,Bresciano, and Schwartzer running around 20 years ago.

rl – very true; looking back, that generation of soccer players was a bit flukey; time will tell I guess, if they can ever repeat it in the future.

True, though Mooys from Brighton is a good soccer player nowadays. Thing about soccer is it has been and will be around forever , with big $$$ attached. It will chug along in the backgoround, and not have to worry about expansion etc. Thing is that AFL has nowhere else to go apart from here in Aus. Thats the thing i see

What gets me AR is people go on about that group like they won the World Cup Final or something?..

Durtle is a funny one, he has been banging on for months about WP being replaced by a Freo reserves team…
We all know this is a crock of chit and the other idiot STD just craps on about what ever comes into his stupid head.
What these guys don’t realise is that you offend the supporters of the club you are bagging, I am sure I could write all sorts of stuff about other clubs but I don’t because I know it will offend someone…
So fark off you ass clowns ?

No doubt about it Unkaz soccer is the world game but AFL has the advantage of subsidizing the grass roots which makes it alot more affordable than joining a junior soccer club, and i can safely say it will never be the no.1 sport here or the U.S.as the fans prefer indigenous football codes that display more physicality.

Bh-- don’ t get me started on that soccer group, it annoys me as well. In the end they did bugger all. One only has to look at Viduka’s record for Australia to see it clearly. He never scorred for Australia in the WC finals. Says it all really

The fact is the northern corridor continues to grow and Joondy have a very very big growing zone and that needs reassessment by the WAFC.

There needs to be a reshuffle, take away some of their southern most zones and every club gets pushed further north, Subi gets WP’s southern most zones, Claremont takes some of Subi’s, EF takes some of Claremont’s, Perth gets some of EF’s…

Anyone disagree?

Claremont dont need any extra DD sheesh, ditto EF.
They have the best metro zone plus the Great Southern League (Albany etc), Ongerup League and the Kimberley Leagues x 3 (West Kimberley, Central Kimberley & East Kimberley), whilst EF have the very lucrative Great Northern League on top of their lucrative metro area.
When was the last time Claremont’s Colts team finished outside the Top 5?..1974?

True BH those clubs have rich country zones but I am just trying to be realistic when a club like mine has very little scope for growth while clubs north and south of the river are benefiting from constant rapid growth in their zones then something has to give and it wouldn’t be practical to say for example allocate Kingsley and Whitfords to Perth would it?

Perth should get Canningvale and Piara Waters which I think belong to EF, we might also pinch one off SF. EF could be compensated with say Cottesloe/Swanbourne, Claremont gets Floreat/City Beach, Subi gets Kingsley/Whitfords. You get my drift?

Maybe Swans get Belmont, I’m not sure TBH exactly who has what as it stands but there needs to a shuffle around to try to make it more equitable and fair.

I know where you are coming from with your thoughts here DD and yes at some point in the future the WP zone will probably move up a road or 2 to Whitfords Ave or Ocean Reef Rd or down the track Hodges Dve as the likes of Jindalee, Butler, Alkimos, Eglinton, Yanchep, Two Rocks, Banksia Grove, Carramar, Ashby, Carabooda etc explode in population growth.
As I posted before still cant believe the likes of Armadale, Kelmscott, Forrestdale & Roleystone are not in the Perth zone anymore and would be happy if they returned to the Demons along with Piara Waters & Southern River.
Swans would love to get Ellenbrook back the area we nurtured from the first shovel in the ground in that new development 25 years or so ago only to have it pulled from us just over 10 ago just as it was about to start reaping some reward for the long game wait.
But the WAFC do absolutely nothing about Claremont’s zones that have produced countless draftees and a complete 45 year dominance at Colts level?!?!

West Perth don’t really have a good country zone like other clubs have, so it is important we have a strong city zone for compensation, on top of that we don’t have the money to recruit like other clubs so it is important to develop within.

Very true AR.
Lets face it probably close to 80% of us here in WA have an English/UK background of some sort, and yet footy is the biggest sport in WA by the length of the Ascot, Belmont, Gloucester Park & Cannington straights put together.

A good example of how the pomms take to our footy is to have a look at Central districts in SA, centred around Elizabeth, an area almost totally made up of British migrants. CD started up in the 50’s just as the major wave of post war Brits were coming out, they struggled for decades, didn’t play finals till the 90’s but then exploded with 9 flags in 11 year in the naughties, they are a massive well resourced club with very good facilities, their crowds are very soccer like with their chanting, the best one was “From pomms to Premiers”. The took to our game like ducks to water, plus their colours are red white and blue. They marketed themselves brilliantly to the locals.

what should definitely go in terms of zones is Peel’s one in the country; SD can have it plus, possibly Esperence, as compensation for losing Ellenbrook.

it is interesting that they have never done anything about the Tigers.

I imagine it takes a lot of resources for WAFL clubs to help country kids relocate and help get set up in the city coming from the country so it’s a big advantage if you have a strong local zone and don’t have to rely on finding talent in your country zones.

I also think clubs who’s zones are located along the coast is an advantage as a lot of them would surf and some of them join surf lifesaving clubs at a young age which helps their physical and mental development.

Similarly I believe Perth used to have Canningvale when it was mostly known for it’s industrial area in it’s early development but pulled out from under us and handed to EF.
