Ongoing Drama with Venues West........AGAIN!!!

Joondy Jerkers would have Alkimos, Yanchep, Two Rocks. Super growth areas so surely there has to be pressure to relieve them of some of their southern most zones which should result in a reshuffle just about right across the board. Maybe Subi’s zones drift further north and the likes of EP, Swans and Perth maybe pick up some new zones. It would flow on to Claremont.

The problem with my clubs metropolitan zones I don’t think we’ve had a new growth zone since the 80’s when Thornlie and Huntingdale were growing rapidly. Where does our growth come from? Answer, no where. All the WAFC can do is push the northern and southern most clubs zones further out and allocate their inner most to the Perth CBD to us. When Gavin Taylor was appointed he hinted that Perth might get Canningvale but I don’t think that has materialized.

Is Piara Waters/Harrisdale/Southern River in Perth’s zone DD?
That area is going gangbusters atm.

I don’t think so mate. Can’t see or recall names popping up on our lists from those areas but then maybe they are too young. Can’t see any of those suburbs on EF or SF lists either though pretty sure i have seen Piara Waters pop up before, would be either EF or SF. Souths have a few from Forrestdale and Jandakot which is border with those suburbs you mention. Definitely we should be getting some of those zones I reckon.

So your motivation or more so lack of for a name change was to go with cap in hand to the local business community and say if we change our name to Joondalup who will give us money? That is a very narrow minded arrogant attitude with a yes or no black or white set of answers.

You should be thinking a long game. You put a question to most people like that they are going to say no but if you actually do it in good faith on the basis you want people in your area to be able to identify with the club and feel a part of it then I think you will reap what you sow very quickly in terms of supporter support and then financial support will follow if local business recognise more locals are supporting the club.

Give me strength !

DD, we were WPFC T/A Joondalup Falcons for a couple of seasons and it didn’t create any Corporate revenue and it was revisited again 5 or 6 years ago and a consultancy firm engaged and local Business again didn’t commit. We are talking substantial sponsorship, not your Mum & Dad corner store that would contribute $500, there were a few around like that. Would your Perth FC change its name for no apparent reason ???

being called Joondalup makes more sense than being called West Perth since you are not located in West Perth wouldnt it ?

Leedy it really must be the location and businesses there, Footscray still FFC on the jumpers but are called Western Bulldogs, BBFC for the Lions and there are couple of others.

Perhaps and just perhaps the the businesses would settle a mixture of West and Joondalup and some will laugh but the Joondalup Western Falcons or a variation. Trying to satisfy the members and potential sponsors.

The topic started out as the proverbial dig but I think it has turned into a rational discussion of what can be done.

You NEVER called yourself Joondalup. Maybe on paper you did but you never officially told the WAFC and the media that you changed your name to the Joondalup Falcons did you?

Piara Waters is cut in half roughly I think and Southern River is Perth’s

Going to be quiet different if all teams need to be called by their actual location

Looking forward to this weekends fixtures:
Fremantle with the bye
Joondalup v East Fremantle
Claremont v Lathlain
Bassendean v Mandurah
And the local derby - Leederville Slightly North v Leederville Slightly South

TT: Carlisle, or perhaps Kelmscott?

TT - is West Perth near Joondalup ?

Your club name has to be relative to the junior zone you represent, for example a kid kicking a footy in East Perth area is tied to the Royals and a registered kid in the West Perth area is also tied to the EPJFC,and not to a team based in Joondalup the last quarter of a century.

Fuck me DD, its like pulling teeth having a discussion with you. Surely you remember we were “Joondalup Falcons” for a couple of seasons when we moved to Joondalup. The name was actually on all TV news, particularly print media. I recall one paper would JF and another would have WP.

Midland is closer to Joondalup than West Perth, maybe you guys have a crack at changing your name

No need to change our name, we were not the club that moved, that was West Perth which is not near Joondalup.
If people have trouble with that better have a look at a map

Anyone know the population of Joondalup compared to West Perth?

Fremantle Dockers should also rename too the CockBurn Failures to better represent themselves.

I have a 2005 membership badge. The Joondalup Falcons.

Not that I recall Loopy, when was that? Must have been mid-late 90’s when I’d lost interest. Never went to a game in 97 when we last made finals.

Maybe when you did it was too soon and the locals weren’t ready to embrace a local WAFL team or maybe it divided the club and whinging member’s forced the club to buckle.

But I seem to recall a massive turnout when you adopted a pommy theme for heritage round was it? Did you wear red, white and blue that day? About 5 or 6 years ago? Your club needs to identify itself with the kids growing up in the suburbs. West Perth only confuses them, how can they identify with the name West Perth?

DD, no kids identify themselves with any WAFL club anymore, AFL is forced down there throat. The only kids that do are the ones the go through the development program, Colts and then to Seniors, the others that don’t pursue footy are only AFL fans.
