NM Robbed

Games decided by incompetent umpires who are sucked in by 95% of the crowd willing them into decisions that weren’t there. ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL!!!

  • 3rd qtr incident where Kennedy plays on from an advantage and misses. Umpire then calls it back and the result is in a goal.
  • Same as above but against NM who would have had the kick 35m dead in front, advantage paid to a NM player 15m away who stops then realises he has been called to play on. He is then forced to his opposite side to kick and misses.
  • Blacks mark (25m dead in front) that supposedly was touched???
  • Hurn takes player down then intercepts and WC score. Even Leigh Mathews says it was a blatant free.
  • Shuey’s kick 50m out late in the game. 2nd last free kick of the game.
_ Selwoods free kick (last of the game) that eventually decides the game.

Unlucky NM you were robbed!!!

Yeah, totally agree. I actually thought that Selwood had been pinged for holding the ball in that last one. Anyone who says that the umpires are not affected by home crowds didn’t see that game tonight

North were beaten by the great man himself ..Nic Nat!
No doubt freeze will have some link to EF to the great man as apparently they are the only club who can produce talent of this calibre!!

quite surprised SD don’t produce more NicNats though BH…anyway I still reckon Tyler is better!!

REALLY ROCK??, surely you are not suggesting the Eags get a good run with the umps at subi?. I dont think they EVER lose a free kick count at home, no matter if they win or lose. Of couse the umpiring was crap. North got some OBVIOUS frees of course, but any 50/50 scragging or holding, how many did they get? Eddie covering his hands after replaying the Seelwood free said it all. Still spose its cos he is a Victorian… that will explain it all eh!

I agree with you Rock but there are more.
The first goal by Harvey from a free didnt exist, Harvey stopped going for the ball knowing full well Waters was coming behind, effectively tunnelling Waters - goal to Harvey, wasnt there.
A goal kicked outside 50 from Thompson, I think, Schofield being held in the square, clearly a free to me. Goal to the Roos.
Two push in the backs in the midfield from the Roos, not paid, resulting in a Roos clearance.
By my calculations if the umpiring was perfect, Roos probably should have won by about a goal. They were unlucky.
If the Eagles could kick straight there wouldnt have been a contest.
The Selwood free for high… well I think he went in purposely looking for it, which I think is a disgrace.
Just an average team playing another average team for me.
Alas we will take the 4 points.

I am no Eagles fan after what they have imposed on the WAFL & I am no umpires fan either it would be fair to say & yes they were very ordinary again last night both ways I might add
..but the umpires did not take a contested pack hanger with 30 seconds left on the clock & then go back & kick the goal under all sorts of pressure after the siren from 30m out on a 45 degree angle with 22 players standing the mark or either side of the great man!
If there has been a more exciting player in the history of our great game than Nic Nat & I have seen Ablett, Carey, Lockett, Dunstall et al live in the flesh I might add, I certainly cant rememeber one!

Agree re the final play, in thar despite the terrible free to Selwood that YES it was a great mark. Nic Nat is spectactular, long long way from Ablett senoir in soooooo many respects IMHO. Personally i think Nic Nat looks more spectacular due to his colour, and no im not being racist. Once he can swing around full tilt and lazily snap a fifty metre goal on his non preferred, then yeah he “may” be the most spectacular in the historry of our game. In context Goldtien played a better game IMHO, Nic Nat took 3 screamers i agree, and yes a match winning mark.

Goldstein is a ripper ruckman!
North are a pretty solid team all round, strong marking contests.
They just somehow need to present more opportunities, because they certainly made the most of the ones they got.

Ohhh and on the umpires at Subi.

In their 22 home games in 2011 and 2012 the frees for and against WCE at Subiaco were :

For 531. Against 399.

30% more free kicks for West Coast over those 22 games.

…now its not as though they have been the top team over this period, so why the inbalance???

What were the stats for their away games Unka?

dunno to be honest…be interesting either way i suspect

selwoods free was very soft indeed. but why did the north defenders not attempt to spoil when nic nat took his mark 5 deep? school boy stuff.

…and why didnt they milk the clock and give a few options after that North defender took the mark with 40 secs left on the clock…DUMB FOOTBALL

Incompetent umpires Unk. That’s why it’s called home ground advantage I guess.

Interesting comments about the game - would love to talk to someone who is neutral. I was unable to watch or listen, so had to follow it on Mark McGuanes AFL.com site. He didn’t seem to have a real problem with the umps being biased (he’s a Victorian isn’t he unk  . Still, I should be able to watch in on Foxtel sometime and make up my own mind.

If anyone of you lot actually watched the incident with Selwood you will see the contact was actually made to his head, so a free was rewared & the corect decision was made.

The umpire didn’t pay the free kick for Selwood ducking,he paid it for over the shoulder AFTER he went to ground. If you ;isten to the umpire on the game you can hear him call it.

Hey Unk im surprised you havent commented on your own game where in all the same play in the last term Krakouer firstly clearly took the ball through for a point…play on,secondly he then got tackled and imo holding the ball…no to high thirdly in the same incident way beyond his mark umpire allowed him to play on…Goal!!
You lose by a kick!!!
Guess the game wasnt at Subi and didnt involve the Eagles so not worth commenting on!

I will admit that I only watched no more than 10 minutes of the game. In that 10 minutes and it wasn’t 10 contiguous minutes I saw a blatant hold of a North player without the ball on the wing. how an umpire could not see that when there were only two players within cooee of the ball and a completely unimpeded view is beyond any human’s capabilities. The free kick awarded to Selwood in the last minute was indescribably soft and certainly in the context of how games are umpired these days total unjustified. With respect to the current trend of players initiating contact to their heads in my humble opinion the powers that be should deliver an edict to all clubs and players that they have four weeks to eradicate such behaviour. After that four week grace period any player indulging in such play should be suspended for one game for a first offence, and for each subsequent offence the period of suspension should be doubled to 2 games, 4 games, 8 games and 16 games for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th offences. It is a blight on the game and is analgous to soccer’s diving.

As to the more general but very salient point do the Eagles get a good run with the umpires it is an unequivocal and unambiguous yes.

As for NicNat it speaks volumes of him as a person and he still looks terrible in blue and yellow.
