Henriques,the next Hussey!!

After the disaster that was the first test against India,it seems that at least one shining light did emerge. Moises Henriques.
He certainly showed a lot of poise in the way he performed in both innings of the test.
He has been around the shield scene for some time now ,but generally has been rejected, similar to how Mike Hussey was.
Does he have the frit and flair to go that extra step that Hussey had?Is he going to be the one to take Husseys role as saviour of the Aussie side.
The othe bright spot I suppose was the bowling of James Pattinson. He worked his butt off and was without doubt our best bowler.
Other than Clarke getting a ton in the first innings there wasn’t much to smile about.
Huges has to stand up and be counted again.Though in his defence he did cop an absolute blinder of a ball in the second dig.
A lot of soul searching before the second test and not much time to recover from that pasting.
Do we have any changes that we can make to improve!!!

Henriques wouldnt carry Hussey’s bag to the game..

Yeh he is just filling in until Mitch Marsh is ready to play test cricket

because he has his own bag to carry perhaps?..oh silly me, you mean Moises isn’t good enough to carry Husseys bag?..

well at the same age of their respective test careers, Henriques has scored more runs, more fifties, taken more wickets and catches than Mr Cricket did at 26 yrs old? Anyway time will tell how good Henriques will be at the elite level, considering he isn’t a specialist batsman like Hussey, one can’t expect the same level of runs from lad as Hussey scored…one thing for sure if the lad hadn’t played in that game, it would of been all over by the 3rd day!!

Drop Siddle, keep Starc for the variation and his ability to scuff up some areas for sadly Lyon and either Maxwell or Doherty to aim for…it’s the top three which is the problem…though Warner is making runs…Cowan is the problem, he is a 30 - 35 ave player…nothing more nothing less, at least Watson has the ability to score fast and take the game away from the opposition IF & WHEN he gets past 25!! Plus a right/left handed combination will help keep the Indian spinners on their toes…though if you drop Cowan or Hughes you have another leftie in Khawaja coming in…

Freez, what about drop Starc for Johnson!!
Do you think that Khawaja would come in for Hughes!I am not sure they will drop Hughes. He copped a brute of a ball in the second dig.

Well done to Henriques. Gutsy, classy effort on debut, played the spinners beautifully by watching the ball and playing late. Best thing is he’s assured that the highly over rated Maxwell will continue to carry the drinks.

Changes for the next test should be Johnson in for Siddle and another spinner for Starc. Watson to open with Warner, Cowan at 3 and Phil Hughes out - hopefully for good. Surely Pattinson has to play. He’s the only one that looked like taking wickets but no, they’ll “rest” him and go with another pop gun attack.

If they had any balls they’d get Beer or Agar on the next flight and play him in the Test starting Saturday. But of course they won’t because that would expose the idiocy of selecting three modest dart throwers as alleged “spinners” in the squad.

I wonder how Steve Smith is enjoying his holiday in India? Surely he can get on a plane and come home as well and save CA a few bucks on accommodation.

Agree with that Dog

My side for the next test would be drop Siddle and Starc for Doherty and Agar (though doesn’t look like he is replacing Bird) and also piss off Cowen and bring Maxwell in. Hit them hard with 4 spinners. Our selection for last test was laughable

I don’t see us as having spinners,I see us as having slow bowlers.Maybe in more ways than one.

we could have played Clarke and 10 spinners and still lost on that wicket..its about quality, not quantity as Pattinson showed..
he was our best bowler by the way and doesnt bowl spin..

And it looks like Pattinson may be rested next test from what i heard, thats how well the selectors are going

if it means he doesnt break down again its a smart move..
he needs to be managed to be fit for the Ashes..

selectors are an easy target for people instead of focusing on the blokes who dont make runs or take wickets…

Mate we both know its been a shambles this year, not one side has been our best team and they are giving out caps more freely than ever, its a joke!

so who shouldnt have got a test cap ?

they have introduced Bird and Henriques who both have done very well..
Quiney was the best player in shield cricket last year so deserved a go.
Hastings was the one who was probably a wrong call..

yeah MO but the selectors ARE responsible for giving these guys the opportunity in the first place…and the back ups who will be used to replace them if they don’t perform…the likes of Smith, Doherty and Johnson don’t really fill most folk with confidence do they? Saying that Doherty’s darts maybe more effective than Lyon’s slow loopy bowling…but then again how a fella with a bowling shield average of 80 this year got on the plane in the first place, totally astounds me!!..who should we be focusing the blame on for that decision?..Doherty himself for having such a shite bowling average this year?

all it says it that Doherty was considered a better option than all the other bowlers going around..
Beer would have gone if fit and he is average as well so not sure why everyone is getting so worked up..

Warney’s bowling average in India was 43 so its not as simple as just saying pick a spinner and we will be fine..

last time i checked Pattinson isnt a spinner

I think that Lyon bowls to predictably. He doesn’t seem to have the change of pace that the top class spinners have.Judging by the bowling speeds they show on the TV, some of the better spinners have a range of about 10kmh difference in their faster ball and slower ball.Lyon doesn’t have that.
I also think that because Pattinson bowled so well in both innings it made the other quicks look bad.I think that we have to have a lefty in the side,be it Starc or Johnson,I am not sure.
Siddle has certainly been the work horse for the quick the last 12 months or so and has deserved his place but Starc is younger and maybe has more to give overall.

You answered it well yourself

Mate we both know its been a shambles this year, not one side has been our best team and they are giving out caps more freely than ever, its a joke!

so they got one selection wrong and all of a sudden its a shambles and they are handing out caps more freely than ever ?

far too much focus on the selectors and not enough on the players that get picked..

What bout the rotation policy then? I suppose your in full support of this, even though the only thing it has achieved is get up the nose of cricketers and the fans

Jackson Bird has now been ruled out of the tour with a back problem.Just what is it that the fitness staff are doing wrong for all the fast bowlers to be getting so many injuries?
