First game vs West Coast

Wouldn’t have thought you would name a player under an injury cloud as an emergency.

Particularly against a team like WCER.

Besides Harding is named.

Heaps of players get named despite not playing a pre-season game- Strnadica named by EF. Watts at EP. Parfitt wouldn’t have played either

Nor Big Jonesy from East Perth.

Hamish Free?

Well all will be revealed later on this afternoon with the exception of the two AFL WAFL clubs of course. They get special privileges.

That’ll certainly apply if one of their concussed players is allowed to play 1 day early.

Grounds for Protest,…….

I don’t see any need to play Luers, even without GM and Schlensog. We still have Dean and Scoble to play back, Clarke and Johnston forward and Edwards and Harding to ruck. Johnston can go back if required and Harding can play forward. I agree it does seem strange that, if fit, GM wouldn’t be in the 23. I struggle with the omission of Moore, especially given Bodle is named. I assume the positions players are named in is not to be taken seriously - Parf at CHF, Sing on ball? It’s a shame we don’t have a reserves game. It would be good to see how players like Gardiner and Hallett go in the reserves. Evans and Roberts were good when they came in last year too, and may be unlucky to miss. I thought they might have got the nod ahead of some debutants and allow them to develop in the reserves for a while.

Best I could do to counter the no budget.

I have printed 5 if anyone sees me tomorrow

Changed Kluske to # 8 (as that is the number he was given at Jumper presentation) instead of 12

Are you saying that’s the updated team? Not according to the WAFL site. Too early.

That’s the team isn’t it? Emergencies have been named- it’ll only change if there’s a late out. No Glass-McCasker is interesting- thought he played well against us again big Jono in the final

Well it’s exactly as is named last night. Schlensog and Paton now listed as available round 3. No Hill on the injured list.

No not updated. Just a way to work out who’s who number wise on the day.

I expect they won’t run out like that. Is Parfitt worth risking against WC? I say no too valuable with some tough games coming up. Surely Jessie comes in.

According to WC injury update on their website Tom Gross will be on managed minutes if he gets through training.

Well at one stage our percentage was a whopping 329%. Finished on 173%. Disappointed we didn’t keep the Eagles to 10 goals or under but 18 goals to 9 after qtr time I shouldn’t be complaining.

What a game by Johnno bagging 6, Clarke got going and finished with 7. Byrner was brilliant as was Charlie C. The other Charlie showed he is a very good pick up as well as Zac Harding who I thought won his contest with Bailey Williams who was one of their best along with Dewer.

Wasn’t too impressed with Indi Kirk until the last qtr when I thought he was our best and snapped a nice goal.

Long queue to get in took about 15 minutes. The bloke in front of me was looking at his phone the whole time and still didn’t have his QR code ready so I said do you mind if I go past you mate.

Because the waflw was playing after they forced us to go out through the entry gates and were still scanning people coming in to watch the girls. Will be interesting to see the attendances after the first round.

Forgot to mention an outstanding game by Baxter Phillip 21 posessions and 9 marks. Might have been his best game.

Bit of anticlimax for me.

Although in fairness you only play as well as your opponent lets you. Then again, we did win by 65 points. So, I really should walk away happy.

We were very rusty early, and I would expect some of those turnovers to disappear in a hurry.

I will reiterate, Charlie Dean will be the recruit of the year. 14 disposals but 9 marks most of which I think were intercepts. He will Captain the backline and release some of the pressure on Scoble.

I must admit that I have never been a huge fan of Johnstone, but he proved to me today with 6 big ones that maybe there is place for him after all. Clarke was again outstanding with 7, and I reckon with the supply he will get there could well be a Naylor medal there for him. He is by far the best kick for goal in the WAFL.

Kirk was quiet early but went rampant in the last. He will pick up the pace of the WAFL game and become an influential midfielder.

Kluske looks like a good mature age recruit, kicked a couple of goals.

And I would like to see some more of another couple of Colts, Tomasini and Baxter Gray. For the first time in decades we have quite a number of really top-notch youngsters which augers well for the future. If so we are here to stay for a while.

Where do you fit Schlensog and Paton. Lots of luck to the opposition defenders this year.

I was feeling a bit greedy today, hoping for 4 more Goals for us and 4 less for them.

Makes the Margin 113 points.Unheard of for us,but 24.9?

Yeah,I’ll take that and if attacking footy means you’ll grnerally score more than the others, then you’d settle for 4 Premiership Points on a regular basis resulting in enough Wins to go Deep into the Season,…

I’m sure the boys will work on cleaning things up a bit and prepare to put the Heat on our next opponent or 3 coming up!

Look forward to Spoiling South’s Flag raising party next week!

We need to work on our transition out of the backline. It was deplorable early and lucky WC didn’t capitalise.but when we won it out of the middle or got past centre we were very efficient.

Can’t question the effort but Scoble was a bit fumbly today along with OH-B. Dean and Baxter Phillip were outstanding and Taylor gave us great rebound. I asked one of the inner sanctum before the game why Glass-McCasker wasn’t in the team. He said they didn’t want too many talls. I guess they saw Luers as being more agile and he did finish with 3 goals but also made a few blunders. I’d be picking Jessie next week he can also play forward if required.

It was good to have a couple of kids in today in Grey and Tomasini but to be honest both looked a long way out of their depth. Not sure how both of those got picked in front of Cooper Moore. Moore was great late last year including the final against the sharks. Nice to have depth though.

Agreed the forward line functioned well and the ball movement from Constable, Parfitt and Burner in particular was outstanding when we won the ball. Harding looks very agile and he’s only going to get better. Riley Wills is a ripper. I hope he stays injury free.

I am Trusting our Qualty Coaching Team to see good potential in these kids, that we might not.

Having said that, having Quality players on standby, gives you confidence we are Spoilt for choice in the long run!

In the short term, the make up of the Team may immediately change, for next week and the next, given we face the Reigning Premiers South and a potentially resurgent Peel.

Height or no Height,I’d be adding Glass-McCasker in against all those guys!

Yes I guess Moore, Roberts, Evans and Glass McCasker would be the four most disappointed. Pressure on spots now.

Lets hope we keep everyone together unlike last year when we had 3-4 walkouts.

I really like way Gray and Tomasini went at it actually - not many possessions I agree but their intensity is great. My philosophy would be to let them know that they are playing the first four games no matter what - this takes the pressure off and lets their natural talent come through.

That said - the only pressure on spots would come on to Bodle and perhaps Lures. I would like to retain one of these players for next week though. Maybe Moore or Glass McCasker in for Bodle. Tilbee is another waiting in the wings to take his chance.

Very happy I was wrong about Parfitt not going to play.

Very happy for Edwards who couldn’t get back into the team for the finals last year. Jaques took his opportunity there and these two - who get along well - will be putting massive pressure on each other to hold their position in the team.

Baxter Phillip tells me he put on 6kgs over the summer and it looks good on him.

Johnston’s marking was just phenomenal yesterday - very happy for him. I hardly noticed Clarke’s 7 as he just quietly goes about his business - he must love it when he see Byrner in particular running out of the guts with the ball in his hand.

Zac Harding and Indi Kirk - just look to be absolutely loving life over here; constant smile on their faces and bringing an excellent vibe.

A couple of renovations have gone on - in particular in front of the timekeepers and the hallway to the presidents lounge. Excellent work by Belly and management here - not giving up on the dream of shiny new digs but in the meantime we present the old girl as best we can. Now got to reinvigorate the spectators lawn on the north western side.

The Bob and Ian Miller ball legend looks great and lastly - I will say that for a West Coast game - the crowd was very good.
