Did Covid-19 claim another victim?

TOO, gtr: he was an extremely brave player, possibly the bravest pound for pound.
Also, he is right up there as one of the best footballers to come out of the northern suburbs

Fong
Stazza
Laidley

Interestingly AR where those players you named came from- Nollamara, Westminster/Balga is considered central these days.
From the modern northern suburbs the likes of Stephen & Brad Hill (Quinns), Darling (Sorrento/Duncraig), Van Berlo (Whitfords) would be some of the better known names.

BH yep, good post mate, and I agree 100 per cent
Darren Rumble would be another whom was a pretty good footballer, for us, fortunately, rather than WP. Bease, I think that the whole of the inner north and north has under performed in terms of producing footballers since 1980. Again, the one exception is the
middle class area zoned to Subiaco on the coast.

What do you think?

Now that’s a great example of a “victim”. Thought he tried out with Claremont preseason in 1986. Was talking with Mossie. Just a kid then. Lined up 5 times over three years at Subi Must have been the least experienced number ONE draft pick & grabbed by Geelong. Came back & couldn’t fit in at WAFL.

How could you forget his East Perth years especially when he ran through Basil Zempilas…that action was worthy of the number 1 pick alone!

Interesting points raised about footballers in the northern costal suburbs.
Did think 20 years ago that West Perth would dominate the competition. With those plumb high population growth areas. But that doesn’t appear to be the case.Despite the fact that WP have been a decent side in that era and won a couple of flags.
As for Dean .It does appear that people close to him knew about this stuff going on.Hope he gets through all this business ok ,with no help from the clowns at VicPol.All the best Dean L.

Maybe the cop has problems too.

Oh he has problems alright, along with his cohorts. But hang on, it is the vic police we’re talking about, so the brothers will look after them. Actually, Dean is lucky they just didn’t shoot him. :woohoo:

I think there needs to be more support for ex coaches as well as players. We have seen a number of ex coaches fall on hard times in the recent past
Bomber Thompson
Danny Frawley (RIP)
James Hird
Dean Laidley

I’m sure there may be more who we dont know about. Mick Malthouse made the point that the role is very high stress and some people cannot handle the fallout afterwards

Dean Laidley has got a massive compensation claim coming his way for defamation and breach of privacy. I mean, it’s cops themselves who are meant to protect us and charge people with breach of privacy and defamation. I’d say he’s looking at anything north of half a mil and possibly in excess of 1 million dollars.

DD VicPol will want to settle out of court also. They have dragged themselves through the mud already on this story. And given the fact that Dean is currently receiving treatment for a mental health issue.Just makes it look really bad for VP.

The vic police should pay it out of their budget. This is totally unacceptable. The guy is, so it would appear, very mentally fragile. He wouldn’t be the first to commit self harm.
Put yourself in his shoes, how would you live with the shame?
