Coleman medal

Have you named those Crabs yet,Swan?Or will you accept you went too far in saying some of those Legends were Crab Status?
No I don’t recant from what I wrote. I referred to their crab status relative to some WAFL and SANFL counterparts. The fact that Bill Walker is not a legend clearly and demonstrably shows the patent bias of this category. The winner of 4 Sandover Medals in the pre-expansion era of the VPL is by definition legendary.

Why would you think that ..he is in AFL hall of fame and don’t forget he is in WAFL Legends , VFL players don’t get the luxury of being recognised in two separate regimes, WANFL and SANFL players do.

Swan 42, who would you have knocked out of the intial 96 Hall of Fame/Legend List..

Robran?

Looking at it I don’t think there was one there that Walker would of displaced.

There were 4 that had played WANFL and 3 that had played SANFL , only one had not had exposure to two leagues.. Robran.

You STULL haven’t named names,

Plenty of time for you to do that.

Thats STILL 2nd grade football
Again I say, you vics are so full of it. Coleman played in a state league known as the VFL, AR played in a state league known as the WAFL. As far as being “2nd grade”, that’s only in the eyes of the arrogant, ignorant Mexicans from the east. And you’ll ask, why did a lot of people want to play in your comp? Answer = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ So don’t get too carried away with yourselves.
Not all went for the money, for some it was to play against THE BEST there is. Stpehen Michael may well have been up there with Polly etc, but becuase he never played against the best, he will generally be remembered as a WA champ. Whereas say a Barry Cable is known by everyone in the footy world. VFL was the ultimate comp in the land.
And Billy Walker PROVED he was the equal of Barry Cable. Barry Cable 3 Sandover Medals compared with Billy Walker’s 4.

QED.
Barry Cable made it against THE BEST. we will never now about Walker, dems the facts

Only a “VIC- centric” would make such a patently nonsensical comment like the above.

I aint Vic centric at all. Its just a logical conclusion. Generally only wa people followed the wafl. The stars of the wafl were generally targeted by the Vics. Dont remember any Vic stars hankering to make their name in the Wafl. Bet "most "wa footy followers had a vic team they followed before the eags etc. Dont think many vic or sa footy followers followed a wafl team. Dems the facts

Hassa Mann, Kevin Murray.
Oh and Peter Steward.Geoff Blethyn.
Any one else got any more?

Geoff and Gary Ablett.

For a few weeks.

Allegedly.

Legend has it!:pinch:

The incomparable Ross Smith.

And not to forget the Brians - Sierakowski and Douge.

Or if you want to go back a bit, there was a fella who won 3 Brownlows before he came over to Sleepy Hollow … and followed it up with 3 Sandovers.

Haydn Bunton Snr…end of story!

Jeez BH - keep up at the back.

…and the age when they came over here???

Unka, both Hassa Mann and Kevin Murray went back to Melbourne and continued to play at the highest level. In fact Murray won a Brownlow after leaving East Perth.
Blethyn left and went back and played in the VFL as well.

HB Snr 27
Siera 24
Douge 26
Ross Smith 31

With the exception of Smith, all in their prime I would suggest.

I spoke to Hassa Mann about this very issue , I asked him what the standard in WA was like compared to Vic when he came over in 69, he was candid and you could not get a more honest bloke than him and he was up front, he said it was a long way behind VFL club football by that time and the standard a lot lower.
From the evidence we have in the 50s we might of been closer as our premier sides were beating their premier sides, but by the 60s and 70s it had fallen behind.
We will never know how Walker would of gone , he wasnt tested at that level.

For the record Collingwood was beaten by Swan Districts in Melbourne in 1982. For the record he also played in 21 state games.

Walker proved he was the equal of Cable. It is delusional to think that he could not have been an elite player in the VFL.

The fact that there is one and only one legend who has not been associated with the VFL/AFL clearly and unequivocally shows that it is just a VFL-centric nonsense. Who on here doesn’t think that John Todd is not a legend of Aussie Rules?

what is the point of this thread? A few points:

the Coleman should stay as the Coleman

Robertson did play in the VFL in a crap side, SM, kicking many goals

statistically, the best player ever seen is Bunton whom played at Subi because they paid him – the previous year he had played for Victoria against Western Australia, hardly past his best. In that side with Bunton was Keith Shea, Les Hardiman, whom also joined Subiaco in the same year. Subiaco, even with these star Victorians in the side finished no higher than sixth.

Kevin Murray is on record as saying that John Todd was the best player he had seen –

the bottom of the VFL was always rubbish – any good WA side would have beaten their bottom sides
just have a look at a game in 1986 – Subiaco 25.25 to St Kilda 17 goals something; further evidence can be seen from the fact that, someone, such as John Tossel got a league game at Melbourne in 1982, but could not get a game at Subiaco in 1983. In fact, I was never conned into believing that every thing I watched on the ‘winners’ each week was good football. Generally, they did not show the weak sides, and it was a bloody highlights show — something people have forgotten.
In general, the top of the VFL was better for a few reasons:

they have produced some good footballer
there was large scale recruitting from other states
the smaller grounds promoted a tougher brand of football
victorian play was more tactical, especially defensive, comparred to here – Ross Smith.

No its proves unequivocally that was a better comp for a longer period. Collingwood werent premiers in 82,who cares..what was that an Escort Cup?

You just have Swan Districts on the brain like the labor party, try getting out of the house some time and talking to people with wider experiences.

Toddy was a Wafl legend as was Clive Lewington as was Sir Ross Hutchinson, neither of them are AFL legends either…how many times did WA beat Victoria on the MCG in pre State of O days?

Bazza what a complete load of dribble that you have just spewed forth. You are the one fixated on the Labor Party and Collingwood really wanted to wear their normal jumper in that match.

Perhaps you should take aman’s advice and stick to comment on your tam the Sydney Swans.
