a bit more about 1955: the Demons won it from third spot on the ladder
they failled to score at all in the second quarter
trailled by 34 points at half-time
and, as I said, above, broke the premiership drought
The only thing that could beat us that day was the rain and it came down in bucket loads.
The sun came out at 5 pm and EP had the flag.
The fact Murray Couper was out suspended didn’t help either.
Best individual performance in the wet I’ve seen by a player,The Buzz.

How Miller won the Simpson that day is baffling.
Was only just 8 at the time - but I was and have been told that Perth were well and truely favourites in 78 V EP

Many thanks, mikeh, for starting this excellent topic.
TFaF, Perth were certainly strong favourites in 1978, just as EP were in 1976.
The 1978 second semi-final aside, EP were in great form winning 7 successive games to make the finals and demolishing SF by 112 points in the preliminary final.
Likewise in 1976, Perth were red-hot entering and during the finals, winning 7 out of 8 games to take the flag, the Demons’ only loss being against the Royals in Round 21.
One could say footy is all about momentum, as Collingwood showed last night.

Agreed, 30plus, the Buzz was sensational that day and kept Perth in the hunt.
EP had the luck of the breeze shifts but frittered away plenty of opportunities in the last quarter.
Bosustow would’ve been a worthy Simpson medallist in the 1978 GF.
