Australia vs Pakistan Test Series

It looks like you’re correct Mike.

It was a shocking call - you would have thought that whoever reviewed that decision simply didn’t know the rules.

as a pairing it is probably a case of the odd couple
worked beautifully today
and look at the options available sitting on 1-270 , 30 ahead already , and still with 20 more overs of time until the end of the second day

A dirty couple of days for Pakistan. Good call the selection of Joe Burns. Can see Warner starting again tomorrow.

It has been revealed that the umpires have missed 21 no-balls. If that wasn’t astonishing enough, those missed calls were just in the first two sessions of Friday’s day of play.

That’s a shambles

Footy start in about 18 weeks then we whinge about umpires decisions.. Less in football than cricket.. cant wait for the snail race in my newly planted lettuce plants..

Amazing to see the speeds generated by the 16 yr old Pakistani youngster today 140 +…hope the kid stays fit…only gonna get faster one would expect…Burns unlucky to miss out…Warner hopefully can go big tomorrow…Smith to get out cheaply no doubt…Labuschagne to break his 100 duck…600 minimum…than let Starc et al loose…

Pakistan bowled a lot better today but the damage had already been done. The day belonged to Marnus with good support from Wade. Amazing to see Smith with only 4 out of nearly 600. 3 late wickets were the icing on the cake and I can see a finish by tea tomorrow.

Whilst Smith (and of course others) would be disappointed at his early dismissal the positive lies in the Australian side not being dependent on Smith.

Some very positive signs in the opening test so far - Warner returning to form in the test arena (there was possibly more hype on this from the media than required for mine), Burns being part of a 200+ opening partnership (the bloke made a hundred in his last test before not being selected as part of the Ashes squad to tour England), Labuschagne (the more you see his name the easier it is to spell) and then Starc - whose selection may have been doubtful if not for his Shield form earlier this year. Good indicator that Shield form.

With 3 down for Pakistan now in the second dig it will be a great effort to just bat through tomorrow…which is pretty unlikely.

Interesting to read now the value of a right/left opening combo…and more of an even mix of the above in the top 6…seems like a light bulb moment for the powers above at CA…Ponting quite keen for Burns to be given the openers role till the next ashes tour in a year or so time…why don’t we wait till the summer is over before making comments like that.

Very true Oooll…the more runs Labuschagne makes the easier it is to pronounce and spell his name…showed a lot of guts in the Ashes and has continued on in similar vein v Pakistan…hopefully Pucovski finds his way into the top 6 in the near future…

We end up winning by an Innings and 5 runs to keep our unbeaten 31 year streak at the Gabba intact with a day to spare.
Didnt get it all our own way today with the Pakis Babar Azam hitting a nice 104 and the keeper Rizwan 95 taking it up to our bowlers.
No move on to Adelaide for the day/night pink ball Test starting Friday.

Whilst across the ditch the Poms have their work cut out trying to hold out NZ on the last day in their Test vs the Kiwis at Mt Manganui after a huge partnership between Kiwi keeper Watling (205) and Santner (126), did I see poor ol Jofra Archer reduced to bowling 130km/h medium pace on the more unforgiving tracks?

Good start to the series with an even spread of contributors with both bat and ball. The pace bowlers certainly split the wickets between them. Would have liked to have seen Lyon do a bit more with the ball in Pakistan’s second innings, however he will no doubt get his chances later in the series.

Will be interesting to see what they do with Pattinson for the next test, would be tough to drop any of the bowlers from Brisbane.
I’m sure Mohammed Abbas will play in Adelaide. Terrible decision not to play him in this test given his experience and record v Australia

After that performance can’t how any bowlers would be dropped - no real point of adding Pattinson back into the squad. It does appear that the current selectors have a bent against Starc (his non selection in the Ashes tests would at least suggest that) however his early Shield form and the first test figures keeps him safe for a test or two now. I get the feeling he is the one under the most pressure.
The non selection of Abbas was gobsmacking…makes you wonder about politics at play. Hard to imagine him being in their squad and not being one of the first (if not the first) paceman picked.

The 2nd Test starts tomorrow at Adelaide and looks like we have gone in with the same 12 from Brisbane although I get the feeling they are keen on bringing Neser in for his debut Test at the expense of…?

Read an article today from Allan Border who proposed the idea of playing 4 pace bowlers in the Adelaide Test - proposed that Lyon’s figure with the pink ball in day/night test matches aren’t as good as Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood, although he did also stress it would be hard on Lyon.
The interesting thing about his 4 pace bowler theory was that Pattinson came in replace Lyon and not Neser - I think your right though about them being keen on bringing Neser in.

Its bloody raining over East again!

Maybe CA should look to Perth to host all 5 Tests every Summer a couple of benefits being-

a) Perth is the only venue in Australia that has never lost a days play to rain
b) Perth is the biggest rating Test of the 5 each year (due no doubt to the time difference) and would be a financial windfall for CA and its broadcast partners

let us not make too much of the scoreboard lads and lasses. Unless it is played at Sydney, test cricket is too easy for the batsmen these days. It is the bloody ball and the drop-in pitches, me thinks.

Keep in mind a couple of scores:

Engl: 513/1 (Brisbane)
Pakistan 620 all out batting against DK, Lawson, Hogg, Hogan. (Adelaide)
Australia made 700 at the WACA in the last Ashes series from memory

Jesus Christ if the little bogan got even one run overseas for every five he gets under mums apron strings he’d be a a good bat. Unfortunately…

33 o/s I mean come on.

It’s great to see the Aussies playing so well.Batting and bowling and fielding well. But not much of a contest. Will listen on the radio but hard to watch on Tv.
Pakistan who havnt played at home for almost a decade look sub-par as a Test nation.Fielding is terrible and batting +bowling not much better.
It’s a bit like Subi in the Wafl.Very predictable and quiet hard to watch.Bring on the Black CaPs ASAP.

stt, gtr, so true, both of your posts.

just to put it into further perspective in regards to how easy it has got to bat in the last thirty years, in particular, have a look at the stat below:

1877- 1970

one player made 300 in a test match in Australia: Cowper

since 1980 2020

Warner
Clarke
Hayden

plus Taylor, Cook and Lara have come close and Smith would have had he been a more attacking player by nature. Have I missed anybody? One of the Indian players?

Playing on uncoverred pitches would fix the problem very quickly, batsmen would have no fun in Brisbane and Sydney that is for certain.
