Alignment news

Who are Sydney aligned with? Probably the most consistant if not most successful team of recent times…
Yes, Sydney have their own Sydney swans reserves team, along with GWS Giants in the NEAFL. They were beaten by Queanbeyan in the Grandfinal this year against the Swans at Manuka Oval. Sydney who had no injuries on the senior list, leaving a high calibre at ressies level.

Queanbeyan are more or less only a country team, with most players born and bred in and around Queanbeyan.

The Tigers have only bolstered their premiership side for 2013, and are favourites with NSW TAB.

The seven WAFL teams could take a leaf from Queanbeyan’s book.

Just heard the magnificent 7 are really digging their heels in & may boycott playing the 2 traitors in the regular season also…

Gutsy move DG, hope they wake the brain dead WAFC up.

Yep gutsy as Shark.

The letter from Mr Matin Whitely to Hon Terry Wadron Minister for sport Recreation, Racing and Gaming
which was posted off today and a copy of this letter was forwarded to the WAFC also.

Hon Terry Waldron
Minister for Sport & Recreation
8th Floor, Dumas House

West Perth WA 6005

Dear Terry

I recently met with the President of the Swansmen Association, George Copley who has brought to my attention serious concerns about the future of “non-aligned” WAFL clubs.

The concern of George and others has been caused by the recent agreement made by WAFC, the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers clubs on the AFL Partnering Model or alignment, with East Perth FC and Peel FC.

I am informed there was no impact study carried out and little consideration given to the seven non-aligned Clubs, or their sponsors volunteers, members, supporters and the WAFL in general. Even the members of Peel FC and East Perth FC were not notified of this plan until after it was signed on 29 October 2012, consequently they were not given the opportunity to vote on the matter.

This led to the formation of two groups concerned over the future of the WAFL, the G7 comprised seven non-aligned WAFL Presidents and Save The WAFL Committee, comprised members and supporters from the WAFL. Save the WAFL was formed to voice their concerns of the WAFL Alignment, raise money for campaigns, raise public awareness and work with the seven non-aligned clubs and state and federal ministers to secure better outcomes for the competition.

The newly formed G7 handed down a 32 point report soon after the meeting with all nine WAFL Clubs, which has now been condensed down to 11 points. The main concerns are that AFL rookies will no longer play at their original clubs, potentially leading to a lop-sided competition. The salary caps and funding arrangements of non-aligned clubs are inadequate to compensate for the likely loss of talent. Other concerns relate to the WAFL player points rule, the Player Service Agreement and the future structure of the WAFC.

This Alignment agreement is a major talking point with in and out of the WAFL community and in various media outlets. A petition has also been set up to oppose the alignment at www.savethewafl.com. With so much concern over the alignment it has been suggested that the agreement should be suspended until an impact study can be carried out independently of the WAFC and the two WA AFL Clubs.

As I am sure you will agree that the WAFL competition is an important part of our state’s sporting history and culture as well as a vital training ground for future AFL players. It is vital we do not compromise the integrity of this competition through actions which are appealing in the short term but may well be detrimental to the future of football in WA.

Yours sincerely

The old pretend stand off i suspect (although id LOVE to be proven wrong). The WAFC will chuck another wad of money i suspect, at the WAFL, and all will be happy. Bit more money will make all happy. Doesnt ( at the end of the day) the WAFC, “run” football in WA?? If so the wafl really dont have much of a say i suspect

Yes. My thoughts exactly UNK! Not much mention of simply scrapping the deal.
It will be great if the story of the 7 clubs boycotting the other 2 in the regular season turns out to be true. :woohoo: Make things interesting
Perhaps things are looking positive?

The WAFC once again just chucks more sh!t in our face. They are beyond a joke now!!!

Take it to court and make them pay!!! Ask for double what we originally asked. I’ve always said $200K and nothing less…that’s not to mention our other requests as well.

There should be a vote of no confidence taken in WAFC. They are unable to broker a deal and these are the smart whits who think they can negiotate a stadium deal with the Governement.
Time for them to step down and get some one in who can do the job

Does not matter how much money they throw at the clubs, this competition with this host club scam is rooted.

For you guys that remember back 11 or 12 years ago will know what I mean, the two assole clubs Ep and Peel will have blood on their hands, there are sponsors of some of the WAFL clubs that are pulling out because of this deal, clubs will suffer and could tip them over the edge.

Unless the whole deal is abolished the WAFL will die..make no mistake.

The WAFL was or is improving with attendances etc but the clubs are still struggling with most making a loss due to different reasons in 2012.
Swans have been hard hit with the Tax bill.
With this alignment I see them losing a few members and attendances will most probably drop off in 2014 when the alignment takes effect.
The WAFC has turned on the WAFL clubs and is and has done nothing to sort it out. They are taking WAFL footy backwards.

Can someone just clarify this.

All interstate recruits, whether it be from the last draft or previous drafts will go to either Peel or EP?

eg, Gaff goes to EP this year, lachie neale goes to Peel this year.

Only local players stay with their club in 2013 before going in '14, eg Carter goes to EP and Monaco goes to Peel etc.

I don’t think these players like Gaff, Neale, Suban, and a few more have been included in the lists of players who are moving on for season 2013.

No, only players drafted this year go to the host clubs.

The exception is all Dockers players at East Perth go to Peel immediately and all Eagles players at Peel go to East Perth immediately.

correction to that is only players drafted or traded for from outside WA.

Wellingham, Cripps,Morton, Bennell fit this category but not Sinclair or Hutchings at WC, not sure who Freo have.

Yep that’s it. Subi keep Sinclair for 1 more year. Then he’s off to East Perth in 2014.

The other locals drafted in 2012 are

Josh Simpson (EF) goes to Peel in 2014
Max Duffy (EF) goes to Peel in 2014
Brandt Colledge (P) goes to East Perth in 2014
Adam Carter (SF) goes to East Perth in 2014
Mark Hutchings (WP) goes to East Perth in 2014
Callum Sinclair (S) goes to East Perth in 2014
Alex Howson (EF) goes to Peel in 2014

I think that was all the WAFL boys who got drafted in 2012 by local AFL clubs.

Justin hasn’t played a game yet for SF Doggie and you are already off loading the kid to another club…

LH, the Perth boys reckon Max figjam Duffy will be offloaded by Freo before then anyway…so take him off the list leaving EF to go to Peel in 2014 mate!!

Oops, good to know you are reading every word Freeze :cheer:

Meant Howson of course.

OK, thamks for the clear up. I thought ALL interstate recruits regardless of when they were recruited went to the aligned clubs this year, only leaving the likes of Carter, Schloithe, Duffy, Hutchings etc to go in 2014.
