We clearly need a big reliable key defender as Watts and Fullgrabe are our only options at the moment and seem very injury prone, but Fullgrabe showed against the Bulldogs he is very capable and consistency is his only issue, and Watts is only 20 but big and raw and competes well and he eventually could be the answer. The forward line is a bit of a problem and although big Eddie is regularly kicking his 2 goals,we need him to hold more of his marks and hit the scoreboard harder with more 3+goal efforts, and for mine Shayne Hille for an 80 game player has been very disappointing around the goals and has averaged .5 or .6 a game and nowhere near the quality of a keegan knott or Cody Ninyette type goal crumber that we desperately need, and Matthew Young who is very capable is also too hot and cold, but little tattooed ‘‘Maggs’’ has been a revelation.
seems that I am outweighed in opinions abt No33 and fair enough. I just do not see it enough to warrant it but … .
As for the Rucks, Scott Jones is a good as any around the league and does enough in the middle and at stoppages, AJ just doesn’t do enough, will do a few things but I think that Amos is a better option as the no 2 ruckman. Kuek just needs to learn more in the ressies.
As for the mids possessions aren’t a problem but efficiency is found wanting, if it wasn’t then we would score more and more often. For me I would have Dobson, Wright and Ramsay as our main mids with Kerr and Lynch on the wings. But I am sure that others will disagree.
Stan Wright has also been a bit disappointment as he has unquestionable talent but 15 possessions as a midfielder is never going to cut it particularly when your opposition are doubling that output, and everybody knows the ability of the mercurial Dobbo but he simply does not like to chase his opponent so the high half forward position is the best option with him with the occasional run through the middle,as you wouldn’t want him sitting on Aaron Black out on a wing.
Although young Cooley is playing half back flank due to our injuries at the moment i see him as a future wingman and i love his pace and aggression and Harley Sparks can eventually sit on the other wing and he looks to have a touch of class as well.
Amos is poor even at reserves level so I can’t have him in. The idea of Simpson backing up Jones then resting forward I would try. Merritt is probably the only tall forward that runs the correct leading patterns. But maybe not explosive or big enough for league football. Ugle in for Hille would be an upgrade. As far as the backline, I believe Eaton, Blee and North are fairly limited players. They battle for the team but going forward probably need to be rotated out of the best 22.
eddie simpson 5 games 11 goals
ajang/scott jones 7 games 7 goals
mitch dobson 7 games 9 goals
jaiden magro 7 games 12 goals
shayne hille 7 games 3 goals
matthew young 7 goals 8 goals.
we have had more inside fifties on three occasions and won one game and had one fewer then sharks and lost.this shows our inefficiency also our lack of pressure from especially our small forwards to lock it in
my impressions are that you can’t rely on simpson to kick a bag of goals like he did against swans.it will happen occassionally but he needs others to step up.ajang/jones resting in the forward line is only getting a goal a game.dobbo has had the ball a lot this season but seems to be kicking the ball to where he should be.in general whether we have had two or three talls i have not enjoyed all three competing for marks.once the ball hits the deck it’s gone.one should be at least leading to give options.hille is like a third wingman.he gets the ball enough but is kicking it forward but nowhere to be seen when the crumbs need to be roved..young is a slightly better in crumbing goals.magro is the interesting one as he is getting enough goals but he is getting his goals from a long way out.my only gripe would be that he is getting less possessions then the other two smaller forwards.if he could be more involved with the game he would be sensational with his boot.we have some options with mcguire back from injury and ugle.if we want to win games we need to fix thing fast.we should have a full strength midfield short ly.we can tweak the forward line.backline is a problem.
I agree with all those posts and for me Sebit is the one with x-factor with his athleticism and pace but needs to read the play better and hold his marks, but one good facet of his game is his tackling pressure and i still think he’s got a lot to offer, and Baldwin i reckon is our best crumbing option.

i am a bit surprised how little time he has spent in the forward line in between injuries.seems to be playing a half back flank when available.i suspect if we had all our best backline available he would play forward.

i agree with you about eaton and north.they are in the side due to injuries and not our best six defenders.blee could at least get a gig on the interchange as he can play several roles as needed.unfortunately our backline has been decimated this year.feel sorry for.hayden as i was looking forward to see how he would develop and cahill looks like having another year ruined by injury.
Edwards-Baldwin is probably the quickest player at the club so forward/wing is more damaging.
I will bail out of the discussion as I think we either watch different teams and obviously have completely different views on the game of Australian rules football, I am beginning to think that you would consider bennett copping and tom lamb to be lost chances.
Archie D.GKM, Royal 2019, and Chaddy all seem to have a good grasp of whats going on.
Tom Lamb won our goal kicking as a young kid. Benet Copping played his last game for us in a final against South Fremantle and stood up when senior players didn’t. I rated him best on ground for us. I don’t play favourites just because they come from our zone or I know the player. I support all players that pull the jumper on equally. It’s a subjective game Grump and your opinion and input is always required. On our structure I’m quite focused on the type of athletes required for success over sentiment.
My comment was and is disrespectful to you all but the fact remains I have nothing to add and given your collective thoughts I will withdraw from the discussion as I cannot bring any fruitful input to what you are thinking and putting forward.
I thought Boules had a very good debut in difficult conditions. Took the game on which is a fantastic sign for his future. Msando continues to show good one on one ability. And I thought Lynch did most of the heavy lifting and was terrific.
