It hurts to say this, but well done, West Perth.
You were far more desperate today and deserved your victory.
After kicking five of our miserly eight goals in the second half of the third quarter, I think the Royals’ players assumed that victory was a fait accompli.
Alas, it was not to be.
They obviously didn’t take too much out of Perth’s 2nd Half.I’m sure your Coach would have warned his players about dealing with a desperate opposition.
Both Perth and EP were likely both guilty of complacency against a far more desperate opponent, ODB1.
Ross McQueen certainly laid down the law at the quarter-time huddle and most certainly would’ve done so in the changerooms at half-time after the Royals’ deplorable second quarter with the breeze.
However, I sometimes wonder whether players care as much about winning as long-suffering supporters.
That’s not to say players don’t try but they come and go at clubs, whereas supporters are “rusted on”.
The only time I fear remotely young is when I attend a WAFL game or East Perth AGM, reflecting just how diehard most of us WAFL supporters are.

In our case, more specific to Saturday is not hearing ALARM BELLS Clanging Out Loud within, when opponents start getting a run on.
You’d like to think it’s a valuable lesson to well learnt, but I guess only time will tell,…
They don’t care Archie about historical rivalries, and we certainly didn’t appear desperate or cohesive enough to beat a side that lost by 13 goals the previous week. How do you beat an undefeated side by 39 points last week, then serve up that rubbish is beyond me,and there was no connection between the midfielders and forwards, and the ball movement out of the backline was stilted and slow, and littered with players taking the wrong option, which was highlighted by the last howler which ended up costing us the game.

Do you ever hear your players play VERY LOUD MUSIC in getting ready for a game?
I can never understand that.
I’d sooner hear them listen to BARRASSI and KENNEDY at it all day, even if it is the same sounds over and over.
This weekend’s remarkable round of matches has shown that, on their day, irrespective of ladder position, any team can beat any other team, Lucky.
However, that’s of little consolation when we follow a team that has displayed severe Jekyll and Hyde characteristics this year.
Just as Subiaco also has, we’ve been in a position to win every game at three-quarter-time but some poor final terms have cost us dearly, with our combined losing margins being just 30 points.
We certainly missed the leadership and sheer love-of-the-jumper passion that Christian Ameduri brings to our side.
West Perth had that passion in spades today, knowing that ladder position means nothing in WAFL derby clashes (as East Freo also showed against South Freo today).
It should be a ding-dong tussle between last season’s grand finalists at Leederville Oval next Sunday, with both desperate to regain pride.
I never get close enough to the changerooms to know what music is played pregame, ODB1.
I’d imagine that some players might whack on the headphones and listen to their own musical and/or meditative compilations, while others might prefer a more in-your-face preparation.
I doubt that the rantings and raving of RDB and “Kanga” Kennedy - albeit very effective last century - would get much of a look-in in the modern era.
Unfortunately.
I guess on the flipside,I wouldn’t have anyone listen to NFL Legendary Coach Vince Lombardi talk on 1 play action pass for 8 Hours.

These players could care less about rivalries they actually play harder against other teams. Always go the bruise free stuff against WP. I’m amazed West Perth hadn’t one a game with some of their high end talent. Definitely some of the best footy played against us in the first half. Ameduri sets the tone and we won’t win a game until he is back.
Inexcusable Larry, and we did look extremely soft without Pebbles.
